Dominated by a Bully

The New Girl

Jade had introduced the team to the new girl. She was certainly cute. A little bit shorter than me and had the most dazzling emerald eyes. Her short wavy hair was a vibrant red color with flashes of pink that she had dyed. She had a big smile and her eyes always seemed so wide and full of life. I did notice that her hands were always tucked in and she had a tendency of looking down when spoken too.

Jade had me show the new girl the ropes which was simple enough. She always looked at me with a sort of amazement and wonder, it was almost cute. Apparently she had been wanting to be part of the cheer team for some time, and had almost made the cut. Now that she was being given this chance she seemed eager to prove herself.

After practice I took a shower and when I stepped out the new girl was standing by playing on her phone. "You know you can leave once we finish right?" I asked her as I dried myself up.

"Oh! Yes ma'am! Of course! But um... I wanted... I just meant to ask... Would you like to um hang out possibly?" She seemed so skittish. For a moment I wondered how someone so sweet might fare with someone like Barrett. It was probably best to keep her far away.

"Well I'm meeting up with Joey after this" I said as I got dressed, putting on some blue shorts and a white crop top. Actually Joey would probably get along with her rather well. "Want to come?" I asked and the poor girl looked like she might feint from the excitement.

"Yes!... Oh um I mean, if you don't mind or whatever" she screamed before trying to play it off. I looked up at her, my eyebrow raised as I considered her excitement. Jade had mentioned she looked up to me, I hope she wasn't star struck. I'm not that special.

"Well let's get going then. I don't like to keep Joey waiting." I got up after putting on my shoes and led us out. I was meeting up with Joey at a nearby park we liked walking at. It was a nice place to chat and just hang out. It also had a cute little cafe at the edge of the park so I could grab a drink.

We met up with Joey at the cafe, he quickly came up to hug me and give me a kiss. "Joey, this is Scarlett, our newest member of the team" I introduced them to each other "Scarlett, this is Joey, my boyfriend."

"Pleasure to meet ya!" Scarlett said all happily as she shook Joey's hand. "Scarlett? The name's a little on the nose huh" Joey pointed out.

"Oh yea, my father's idea of a joke. Most people just call me Red" Scarlett always seemed to be smiling so wide. Maybe her face had simply gotten stuck in that position at some point. "Well it's nice to meet you, Red" Joey was of course ever the polite gentleman.

"So? Coffee?" I asked and Red gleefully agreed. We ordered our coffee and chatted about classes for a bit as we waited. The place was empty so it didn't take long for us to get our drinks. I started to walk away from the cafe when I noticed little miss red was pouting.

"Hey is everything alright?" Joey quickly asked having noticed as well. "Oh! No, yea it's not a big deal" she quickly brushed it off. I stood in front of her, hand on my hip to block her "what happened?"

Her cheeks got all rosy and she squirmed in place for a moment. "It's nothing really... I just... Ordered an Iced Latte, they gave me an expresso instead..."

"Hold my drink please" I handed my drink off to Joey and took Scarlett's drink. I headed back in to have them change out the drink, making sure they actually got the order correct this time. When I came back out it looked like Joey was reassuring Red that everything was ok.

"Here you go, one iced latte" I handed her the cup and her eyes seemed to light up like the sky during fourth of July. "Thank you! Really! I appreciate it!" Jeez, well at least Joey wasn't the only one who was bad at standing up for themselves. Honestly this wasn't even that big a deal, but Joey would've also just taken the wrong drink.
