Sana's POV
As I stood in front of the media room, I noticed Joohyun outside, eyes glued to her phone. She was tapping away furiously, looking stressed. For a moment, she seemed miles away, lost in whatever whirlwind was going on inside her head.
"Hey, space cadet," I called out, smiling. "You coming inside, or are you just gonna tap away on that screen all night?"
She looked up, a shy smile breaking through her tension. "Hey, yeah, I will. I'm just... dealing with some stuff right now."
"Well, you're supposed to enjoy the night," I said, slipping my hand into hers to pull her along. "Come on, let's head inside."
Once we found seats in the back, she reached into her pocket, her phone vibrating again. I reached over, placing my hand on hers to stop her. She looked at me, and I just shook my head, giving her a soft smile. "No distractions tonight. Just us."
She let out a small sigh and looked up at the screen. "So, what movies are they showing tonight?"
"Well, you missed Moana. But now it's Insidious: Chapter 3." I couldn't help but grin.
She chuckled, and for a second, the tension in her face melted away. As the movie played, I found myself leaning into her, feeling a strange comfort being this close. Then the jump scares started, and I couldn't help it—I screamed my lungs out. Every time something leapt out of the shadows, I'd clutch her arm tighter, burying my face against her shoulder.
When the lights came on and we joined the crowd shuffling out, I turned to her, embarrassed. "Sorry, I was screaming in your ear the whole time."
She just laughed. "It's okay, I'm used to watching horror movies with scaredy cats."
I puffed my cheeks at that. "I'm not a scaredy cat. I just think it's normal to scream if things jump out at you!"
"My first reaction is to punch and ask questions later," she teased, making me giggle.
"Ooh, so you're a violent one, huh?" I smirked, nudging her playfully.
"Only when necessary," she said, grinning. "So, what made you come out tonight?"
"Oh, you know," she shrugged, giving me a coy smile. "I promised a cute brunette I'd show, so here I am."
I rolled my eyes, fighting back a smile. "Hmm, I wonder who she is... she sounds like a saint."
We ended up standing near the exit long after everyone else had left. I was still laughing at her silly stories when, out of nowhere, a voice interrupted us.
"Joohyun-ah!" a woman's voice called, cutting through our moment. I looked over to see a tall, strikingly beautiful woman approaching, clearly frustrated.
Joohyun's shoulders sagged. She let out a deep sigh and turned around, looking less than thrilled. "Seolhyun. What are you doing here?"
Seolhyun shot a piercing look in my direction before turning back to Joohyun. "Obviously, I'm here because my girlfriend won't answer my texts or calls. What's up with that?"
Joohyun's expression hardened. "We're not together anymore. And, might I remind you, it was you who broke things off six months ago."
I watched as Seolhyun stepped forward, grabbing Joohyun's wrist. My stomach twisted with unease.
"You're still mine," Seolhyun's voice was low, her gaze intense as she looked Joohyun over, then gave me another disdainful glance. "So, she's the reason you're avoiding me, huh? Is she your plaything now?"
