"There she is, catch her" the angry Baker screamed to the guards as I run down the street with the bread I had stolen pressed against my chest as I was running my faster down the cobblestone streets.
I live in the city Calastia that's built on a big mountain and there's five different layers on the city, the bottom layer where all the poor people lived, like me, the second layer where the middle class people lived, the third layer where the upper class people live, and then there was the fourth and the fifth layer.
Where should I even begin, it was my dream to go there, it was where all the dragon riders lived and trained, but I had no chance of ever getting there. Every year, everyone from the middle class and the upper class went to the calling, it was when the dragons got to pick out who'd get to train in the Amiga.
The Amiga is the school for dragon riders, and even if you got picked to go to Amiga, the chances of survival was low, like really low, and if you made it all the was, you wouldn't even be sure if a dragon was willing to bond with you or not.
And of course the Royal Family lives there to.
But like I said, I'll never get there, cause I'm at the first layer. And right now my chances where lower than ever.
Me and my sister Missy lived near the stairs to the lower class gate, we were basically homeless and we lived in a little shed made out of planks we'd found in the streets of Calastias first layer.
Both of our parents died years ago by deadly disease that was spreading like wildfire in the first layer in Calestia.
The disease still exist but if the guards find someone that's infected now, they'll throw them out from the kingdom.
Okay enough talking, now I really gotta get away from these guards.
I saw a small alleyway that the guards would never be able to get through with their big armor.
I run towards it and quickly get between the two houses with the bread still pressed against my chest.
As I get to the other side I hear the guards shouting behind me and I turn around and flip them off before I keep running towards me and my sisters shed.
I move the plank we use as a door to the side and see my sister sitting in the corner of the she'd curled into a ball.
"Hi Missy, I got some food, look" I show her the bread I had stolen. "We can finally eat, and I think it's fresh to" I say as I start splitting the bread, I gave a bigger pice to Missy cause she was older and needed more food than me.
"Lilith, you shouldn't steal" my sister said, her voice was weak, she was getting worse by day, I think she has the disease but I don't want anyone to know so we just don't talk about, ever.
"You need to eat Missy, it's good when you're sick, the fever will maybe get better if you eat."I split the bread into smaller pieces so it gets easier for her to eat.
"Lilith, stop pretending" she says, looking at me with tired eyes, we both knew it was already to late as soon as she got the disease.
"I...I'm going to meet with Gilda today to see if she has anything for us to eat, maybe something good for my birthday" I smile, I didn't wanna talk about her dying, I didn't wanna loose her. She was the only one I had left.
Gilda is a guard an every Tuesday she has the night pass at the wall to the second layer, a few years ago she saw our shed and gave us some food. Ever since then Gilda gave us food as often as she could and me and Missy met up with every Tuesday but when Missy got sick I had started going alone to see her.
