The evening settled quietly over Woodsboro, a calm that felt almost deceptive. Sidney and I sprawled on her lounge floor, surrounded by blankets and snacks, a welcome distraction from the chaos of recent events. This night was completely spontaneous— a chance to escape the heaviness in the air since Casey and Steve's deaths. With Tatum picking us up soon for a marathon of movies, I hoped the laughter of comedies and the jump scares of horrors would drown out our worries.
'Do you think she's lost?' I asked, glancing at the clock on the wall. The minute hand seemed to tick louder, echoing my growing anxiety.
'Probably just getting distracted by some guy,' Sidney replied with a roll of her eyes, but a smile crept into her lips.
Just then the phone rang, its shrill tone slicing through the peaceful atmosphere like a knife. Sidney picked up the phone, hearing the familiar voice of Tatum.
'Hello'
'Practice ran late, I am on my way okay?'
'It's past 7', Sidney noted looking at the clock again.
'Don't worry, Casey and Steve didn't bite it till way past ten' Tatum joked
'Oh,oh that's comforting'
I sat there with a cushion on my lap wondering what the hell they were talking about and Sidney just rolled her eyes causing me to let out a small laugh.
'I'm going to swing by the video store. I was thinking Tom Cruise in 'All the Right Moves'. If you pause it just right you can see his penis' She stated, using a sing songy voice in the last part.
'Whatever just hurry up' I said down the phone after snatching it from Sidney's hand.
'Ta-ta'
I out the phone down and Sod and I lie back down closing our eyes.
Then the phone rang again, silence hanging for a moment wondering why Tatum would be calling again after just speaking to her.
'Tatum just get in the car—' Sidney said, full of frustration.
'Hello Sidney' a low voice came through, distorted and menacing.
'Uh-hi, who is this?'
'You tell me'
'Well I- I have no idea'
'Scary night isn't it? With all the murder and all it's like just out of a horror movie or something.'
'Randy, you have yourself away. Are you calling from work cause if you are Tatum is on her way over?'
I moved closer, my head right beside Sidney so I could hear the conversation.
'Do you like scary movies, Sidney?'
'I like that thing you're doing with your voice Randy, it's sexy.'
'What's your favourite scary movie?'
'Come on, you know I don't watch that shit'
'Why not? Too scared?'
'No no, what's the point they are all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl that can't act when she is running up the steps when she should be going out the front door... it's insulting.' Sidney went off on a rant about how naive scary movies make girls look.
'Are you alone in the house?'
Sidney looked at me unsure of what to say. I just looked at her and shrugged.
'Randy, that's so un-original I'm so disappointed in you'
'Maybe because I'm not Randy.'
My heart raced, the voice was chilling, but Sidney seemed the complete opposite looking puzzled at the thought it wasn't Randy.
'So who are you?'
'The question isn't who am I it's where am I?'
'S-so where are you?'
'Your front porch'
My face turned pale as dread washed over me.
'Why would you be calling from my front porch?' Sidney questioned as she walked to the front door, which I believed was a bit stupid if some random person told you they were there
'That's the original part' the caller stated creeping me out.
'Oh yeah, I call your bluff.' Sidney replied unlocking the door stepping outside and looking around as I stay inside but standing in the doorway.
'So where are you?'
'Right here'
Sidney looked around some more, wondering if the caller was just trying to play a dumb prank on her or something.
'Can you see me now?' Sidney asked trying to test something out.
'Uh-huh'
'Ahh... What an I doing huh? What am I doing?' She questioned with her finger up her nose whilst spinning around. 'Nice try Randy. Tell Tatum to hurry up okay, Bye now'
'If you hang up on me you'll die just like your mother' Sidney's smile faded as she turned towards me. 'Do you want to die Sidney? Your mother sure didn't.'
'Fuck you, you cretin!'
Sidney ran into the house locking the door behind her causing me to become extremely confused as to where the Sidney having a joke with Randy on the phone went.
'What the hell Sidney! What are you—' I cried in confusion before I was interrupted by a cloaked figure with a ghostly face barged out of the closet, slashing a knife at us as we duck to the floor falling in the process.
'No!' Sidney screamed in terror as the killer head butted her lifting his knife about to bring it down on Sidney as I jump on their back trying to wrestle them off of her.
As she got out of her daze, Sidney kicked the killer off her, getting up to try and unlock the front door. But the killer got up, knocking me to the floor, and tried to stab Sidney again. She ran out of the way as the knife got caught in the door, grabbing my hand and pulling me up the stairs with her into her bedroom.
'What do we do?' I whispered, panic creeping into my voice.
'Just stay quiet,' she urged, her face pale but determined. I pressed myself against the door, the sounds of footsteps echoing through the house, as Sidney tried to phone the police but failed, resorting to having to type in 911.
The footsteps grew louder, and the door rattled under the weight of a heavy force. I felt a surge of adrenaline, my instincts screaming to run, but we were trapped.
Then, with a violent crash, the door burst open, and the figure of the killer looked in the doorway, knife glinting ominously in the dim light. The sight sent ice through my veins. I could barely think, my heart racing as Sidney pushed me behind her, protective and fierce.
The killer lunged forward, and I instinctively ducked to the side. In the rush of chaos, I felt the rush of air as the knife sliced through the space I had just been. But in the frenzy, the blade had found its mark— right into my side.
'Y/n!' Sidney screamed, her voice cutting through the haze of pain as I stumbled back, feeling the warm rush of blood soaking my shirt. I gasped, clutching my side, trying to focus through the pain.
The killer hesitated, momentarily shocked by the injury as they turned around and fled as quickly as they had arrived.
Suddenly, the window creaked open, and Billy's silhouette emerged against the dim light from the street. He climbed through with a practiced ease, his expression a mix of concern and determination.
'Billy!' Sidney yelled, running into her boyfriend's embrace as I sat on the ground clutching my side.
'The doors locked, I heard screaming, you alright?' He questioned not noticing me yet.
'The killer is here, he's in the house, he hotly Y/n' Sidney said in a panic, pointing to me sat in a pool of my own blood shuddering.
He ran over to me, helping out pressure on my bleeding wound, as he pulled Sidney into his side.
'He's gone, he's gone, it's alright' he said kissing her in the head.
Billy crouched over me trying to grab something to wrap around my wound when a cellular phone fell out of his pocket onto the floor, causing both me and Sidney to look down and back away from him.
'What? Sid, what?'
Sidney grabbed my hand, pulling us out of her bedroom, down the stairs to the front door as Billy called after us.
She opened the front door, just for us to be faced with the same mask that the killer wore causing us both to scream in terror as Dewey who had been holding the mask screamed too.
'Sorry, I found this, come on.' He said helping me out of the front door over to an ambulance to be stitched up.
'You'll have restricted movement for a while and it will take a long time to heal but you should be okay' the paramedic stated as he stitched up my gash. However, I wasn't paying any attention to what he was saying, I was only paying attention to my brother being hauled out by the police and handcuffed.
'Alright hold your hands together' the police officer ordered.
'Do you wish to give up your right to remain silent?' Dewey questioned professionally, a huge contrast to how I usually see him.
'I didn't do anything' my brother admitted, frustration in his voice
'Do you wish to give up your rights to speak to an attorney and have them present during questioning?' Dewey continued.
'Ask them, they'll tell you.' Billy motioned his head towards Sidney and I sat in the back of an ambulance.
I zoned out trying to block out the immense pain I was in and only snapped out of it when Tatum's car pulled up. That's when I finally saw my brother being driven off in the back of a police car.
'God Sidney,Y/n, I'm so sorry I was late!' Tatum exclaims as she runs towards us after seeing all of the commotion.
'Tatum you can't be here it's an official crime scene' Dewey informed her trying to seem more important than he was.
'Sidney's dads out of town and her and Y/n are staying with us tonight'
'Does mom know?'
'Yes dufus, let's get out of here.'
'Oh you won't believe this,' Dewey said as he showed Sheriff Burke the costume that the killer wore. 'Creepy huh?'
Suddenly a news van pulled up, Gale weathers getting out and looking at what's happening.
Sidney,Dewey and I start to head off in his car but not before Gale peers her head through the window as we drive by, trying to get the juiciness news she can report.
'Sidney, is that you in there? And who is that girl next to you?'
After having no luck talking to us he went up to Tatum.
'Excuse me, is that Sidney Prescott they took away? And who was the other girl with her?'
'I'm not talking to you'
'What happened to them? I heard something about a costume is that true? Can you tell me anything?'
'Yeah, you're a real pain in the ass' Tatum snapped back filled with anger about her friends being bothered by a fame-crazed news reporter, as she got in her car and followed Dewey.
