CHAPTER FIVE
I sneak past my dad and walk down my apartment steps. While I walk to Carter's house I remember what I saw, did I see my mom? Did I almost die? Why was she reaching for my hand? All these questions whirl around my head, Which just makes my head hurt more.
After about 10 minutes of walking, I see a big white pretty house. Christmas lights hung up, looks as if it was out of a magazine. I see people walk into the house. I walk up the long white sidewalk, Walk up the steps and open the white door. I see girls in short dresses, even though its the beginning of December. I walk threw the crowd of people, the walls are simple. Brown with shiny hardwood floors. The music is so loud I can't even hear myself think. I feel someone touch my shoulder, its Nicole. Shes wearing a tiny red dress with matching sparkly heels. Her hair curled and gold hoop earrings.
"Hey Cas I didn't know you were going to be here!" She yells over the music with joy
"Yeah, Carter invited me, so why not.!" I yelled.
"Lets go in the kitchen!"
I follow Nicole into a big shiny kitchen, It has granite counter tops and stainless steal appliances. Looks expensive.
"Wow now that I can actually hear you, Whats been going on Cas, you seem really distant these days." she says with concern in her voice
"I just have a lot going on these days."
"Cas, you can tell me anything. We're best friends."
This makes me feel kind of bad. I mean isn't the point of a best friend to tell each other things? Am I a bad friend? "I'm fine." I lie
Nicole walks over to the fridge and opens it like she owns the place, she throws me a bottle of water. I flinch and the bottle falls on the shiny floors.
"Cas, you were supposed to catch that, why did you act all scared?"
I might tell Nicole one day about my father. But at a party, I don't think so. "I wasn't paying attention. Sorry." I lie
I pick up the cold water bottle and twist off the cap, the cold water fills my mouth.
"How do you know Carter?" Nicole asks
I swallow and say "He said hi to me in the hall, I don't know him really."
I hear a voice behind me. I turn around, its Carter.
"What are you lady's doing not enjoying the party?" He says with a friendly smirk
"We just needed a drink." Nicole replys
I look at Carter, hes wearing a black t-shirt which shows off his muscles. His smiles so white and straight. His eyes the color of the sky and hair as brown as chocolate. Hes a dream boy. But I'd never have a chance with him.
I probably look like a sped, I was staring at him for a good two minutes.
"I have to use the bathroom I'll be right back." Nicole says.
She leaves the kitchen and me and Carter are alone.
"I saw you staring at me, you don't look to bad yourself, well you always look beautiful.
I feel my cheeks heating up, he thinks I'm beautiful. "Thanks." I say with my blushing face. He comes closer. I don't know what to think. He grabs my waist, I just keep looking at him. He leans into my face. I don't know what to think, I start to lean in. I've never kissed a boy before. His lips touch mine, They're soft. I close my eyes and he pulls away after what seems like forever, he smiles at me and I can smell the mint gum left in his breath. I smile, I start to laugh.
"What's so funny?" he says with giggle in his voice
I look down still smiling "Nothing."
It wasn't nothing. I just had my first kiss. With a really hot guy. But I didn't know him. Should I have stopped him? I'm not even dating him. I don't even know him. My smile disappears. I back away and I go find Nicole.
