As their time in Japan winds down, Seungcheol and Jeonghan find themselves caught in a whirlwind of emotions.

STORY

The snow fell softly, each flake swirling gently in the air before settling on the ground in a delicate blanket of white.

The sky was painted in hues of gold and pink, the last rays of sunlight casting a warm glow over the peaceful landscape. Seungcheol and Jeonghan sat side by side on the front porch of their Airbnb in Japan, the end of the trip nearing.

Seungcheol stole a glance at Jeonghan, his heart skipping a beat as he admired the soft halo of light that illuminated Jeonghan's hair,

It was moments like these that Seungcheol cherished the most – the quiet moments shared between friends, the simple pleasures of life unfolding around them. He couldn't help but think back to all the memories they had created together, the laughter and tears, every shared memory that had brought them to this moment. But lately, there had been something different between them, something unspoken that hung in the air whenever they were together.

He remembered the time they had raced around the parking lot in the pouring rain, their laughter mingling with the sound of thunder as they splashed through puddles like children. He remembered the countless dinners they had shared, Seungcheol trying to stick to his diet while Jeonghan tempted him with delicious treats. "What's the point of being on a diet when you ask me to eat?" Seungcheol had joked, unable to resist Jeonghan's infectious smile.

He remembered the long bus rides they had taken together, sharing earphones and listening to their favourite songs as the world passed by outside the window. It was during those quiet moments that Seungcheol had come to realise just how much Jeonghan meant to him, how much he cherished their friendship and longed for something more.

As the snow continued to fall around them, Seungcheol felt a surge of courage welling up inside him. The words get stuck in his throat as he tries to say Jeonghan's name.

"Cheollie" Jeonghan says facing him, "Let's go to the convenience store. There's a specific drink I want to try"

Who was Suengcheol to deny that, "sure."

In the store, Seungcheol grabbed the two drinks, one that Jeonghan was craving and another one. He paid for them at the counter before they headed out.

But when they stepped outside and Jeonghan took a sip of his drink, his expression turned sour. "This isn't what I expected," he wrinkled his nose.

Seungcheol smiled, offering his own drink to Jeonghan. "Here, try mine," he suggested.

Jeonghan's face lit up with satisfaction after taking a sip. "Much better," he declared.

"You can have it then. I'm fine with either," Seungcheol insisted, returning the smile.

As they walked back to their Airbnb, Seungcheol couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Jeonghan seemed lost in thought, his usual cheerful attitude replaced by a quiet sadness that tugged at Seungcheol's heartstrings.

"Is everything okay?" Seungcheol asked, unable to keep the concern out of his voice.

Jeonghan sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly. "I'm just... I don't know. I guess I'm just sad that our trip is almost over. It's been such an amazing experience, and I don't want it to end."

Seungcheol felt a pang of sadness in his chest, realising that he felt the same way. "We made some good memories, didn't we?" he looked up at the sky. "Remember coffee at midnight?" he continued, "that time we stumbled upon that little cafe in the middle of nowhere? We ended up staying there until the early hours of the morning, lost in conversation"

Jeonghan nodded, a fond smile playing at the corners of his lips. "I remember," he said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "It was one of the best nights of my life.

"And every morning," Seungcheol continued, "seeing your crazy bed hair and sleepy eyes, it felt like a different version of you."

Jeonghan's cheeks flushed, a playful glint in his eyes. "And what about the time you almost burned down our room making breakfast?"

Seungcheol laughed, the memory washing over him. "You laughed at me for days, but you still ate it anyway."

Jeonghan chuckled, the sound like music to Seungcheol's ears. "It wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had, but it was the thought that counts, right?"

"You kept stealing my clothes even when I asked you to pack enough"

"I didn't have to pack enough, I knew you'd give me whatever I asked for"

Suengcheol raised his eyebrows.

"C'mon, you're my best friend" Jeonghan says looking into his eyes and for a second it feels like everything shifted between them. Suengcheol has heard it multiple times, but this time the weight of these words felt different. A lot different. Or, so he wishes it was different. "I can count on you for anything" jeonghan finishes the sentence.

Suengcheol pauses his thoughts and takes a deep breath, "Jeonghan."

"Hm?"

"You can hear it in the silence, the way we can sit together without saying a word and still know exactly what the other is thinking."

"You can feel it," he continued, his voice growing stronger with each word. "The way my heart races every time I'm with you, the way I long to be by your side no matter where we go." Seungcheol's gaze never wavered from Jeonghan's, his eyes filled with a depth of feeling that spoke volumes. "You can see it with the lights out," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "The way your presence fills the darkness with light, the way you make everything seem brighter and more beautiful just by being here."

"Seungcheol..."

It had started as a spark, barely noticeable at first, but it had grown into a blazing fire that consumed Seungcheol's thoughts and dreams. He had tried to ignore it, to push it away and pretend like everything was normal, but the truth was undeniable. " I am hopelessly, irrevocably in love with you Jeonghan"

"You are?" Jeonghan questioned, his voice barely a whisper.

Seungcheol nodded as he felt tears pricking at the corners of his eyes, his chest tight with the intensity of his emotions.

"I love you too."

"You do?" Seungcheol asked daring to believe it.

Jeonghan nodded, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "Yes, Seungcheol. I love you too."

A flood of emotion overwhelmed Seungcheol as he pulled Jeonghan into a tight embrace, holding him close as if afraid he might disappear if he let go.

And in that moment, as the snow continued to fall softly around them. And as the world around them faded into insignificance, Seungcheol knew with absolute certainty that he was exactly where he was meant to be – in love, and loved in return.
