As though I could hear the echo of her heartbeat in my ears, my head pounded, the echo of my heartbeat an odd feeling. Yes, it's true, we Gargoyles do have hearts, they just don't pump our own blood throughout our body they just keep the ichor cycling– not producing its own. Leaving us dependent on either murdering humans and eating at their flesh for the little bit of mana-saved blood they bear or drinking a vial of angel's blood and you'll stay alive for a couple of months.

Closing my eyes and squeezing Gia's shoulder, I could feel her tense up the minute she laid eyes on the two in the corner. We had settled into a cozy nook by the window, I couldn't help but gaze around in wonder.

The café was home to several delightful furry residents, each more enchanting than the last. A fluffy tabby lounged lazily atop a bookshelf, lazily swatting at a dangling feather during a half-hearted play session. Meanwhile, a sleek black cat pranced gracefully across a low coffee table, pausing to curiously inspect a nearby patron's cup of coffee. My heart melted at the sight.

Carefully tugging her toward me, I listened quietly to them, the sharper hearing of Gargoyles yet another pro that I partially hated and partially loved, "When will you find the information on my daughter? I told you everything I can without digging up family secrets. Where is the things I've asked for? That I paid for, Kingsley?"

"Patience, Lady Ranunculaceae. You must understand the complexity of your request, finding someone that doesn't want to be found can be quite the scavenger hunt. Especially with the little amount of information you are able to give me." Kingsley grinned anxiously, a vicious look in his eyes as though we wanted to rip her throat out already.

Lady Ranunculaceae closed her eyes, sighing loudly and brushing her hair out of her face, glancing around and grumbling under her breath, "Hurry your antics up, Lord Kingsley, before my husband can't keep up with the public and hide that I am still on our vacation."

I had already been carefully hiding Gia from her sight and Zyran assisted by standing right beside me, our bodies combined enough of a satisfactory block to soothe her nerve. Yet I could see the horror in her eyes every time to referenced her.

A cat carefully curled up in her arms caught my attention, the cat glaring at me and scooting closer to Gia, pushing its little fluffy head under Gia's jaw. Gia subconsciously ran a hand along the cat's back, still zoned in on the conversation between Lord Kingsley and her mother.

Those words passing my head made my skin prickle, her mother, someone like Gia came from that raggedy woman? Truth be told I could barely believe the honest heritage in front of me.

Zyran subtly moved around me to keep Gia hidden from Lady Ranunculaceae's gaze as she slipped out of the cafe. Zyran's face twisted into a disgusted look as the door closed behind her.

I fet furious that the man thought he could show up and stand beside me at my job, like he was at equal standing with me. Like he had any more important than myself, as though he had been here this entire time.

I crossed my arms as he placed an arm around my shoulders, his grin on his face once more, "Are you gonna keep playing with the cats or are we going to be leaving soon, Gia?"

"I'll play with the cats a little longer," Gia muttered, of course, I already knew that Zyran didn't know Gia or Theon as I did, he was always gone on missions while I stayed home and protected them, who did he think he was showing up out of the blue and acting like it was his job all over again.

Didn't he have some girl to flirt with somewhere?

Didn't he have mounds of paperwork to handle somewhere?
