Chapter One.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Lagta hai yeh kyu mujhe,
Sadiyo se chahu tujhe...
Mere sapno mein aake,
Apna mujhko banake..
Mere sapno mein aake,
Apna mujhko banake..
Mujhpe tu kar ehsaan haye re..
Jiya dhadak dhadak,
Jiya dhadak dhadak,
Jiya dhadak dhadak jaaye...

Author's POV.

...

"Varinya, seriously? We expected more from you, especially as the eldest!" Akshay Malhotra's voice thundered across the breakfast table. "Your siblings look up to you. If you don't excel, what example will you set? You're 23, for goodness' sake! Your finals are looming, and if you fail, you'll jeopardize your future in the company."

Varinya's eyes remained fixed on her plate, her frustration simmering. She had no interest in pursuing B.Arch or taking over the Malhotra Empires, the family's lucrative township business.

"I and my father, Ramchandra, built this empire from scratch," her father continued. "We have over 100 projects across India, renowned for elegance and luxury. You'll throw that away for a pipe dream?"

Varinya sighed, her patience worn thin. "Dad, I'm not interested in architecture. I want to pursue my passion."

Her mother, Devyani, intervened, her voice shrill. "Passion? You mean writing? That's not a viable career, Varinya. There's no security, no future. Why would you deliberately sabotage your prospects? You won't earn a decent living, and what about marriage? Who'll want a wife with an unstable income?" Varinya groaned inwardly, feeling suffocated by her parents' expectations.

Varinya's eyes met her father's, pleading for understanding. "Dad, I know you and Grandfather built this empire, but it's not mine. I have different dreams."

Akshay's expression hardened. "Dreams? Writing is a hobby, Varinya, not a career. You need stability, security."

Devyani chimed in, her voice dripping with disdain. "And what about marriage? No respectable family will accept a writer as a daughter-in-law."
