Masha was not a fan of the situation they found themselves in. Locked in a tiny cell, and surrounded by runes she'd never seen before and facing a cage with only a single sad individual inside. They had a vaguely snakelike appearance with creamy swampy scales, blue hair, and two humanoid arms. The snake looked at them with big yellow eyes that were filled with pity and in the nearly dark room their cat-like mouth opened and asked, "You're not one of my siblings. Why are you here?" Masha thought back before answering.

Rocketing out of that portal with Luz had not been fun, and they were sure that they would have gotten at least a few broken bones if her best friend hadn't used her body to cushion the impact. Their disorientation and headache wasn't helped when the older witch with the graying mane of hair... Eda... started yelling. Luz had tried to be nice, but her yelling ended up drawing some guard or 'Scout' attention, and while Masha had no doubts that Luz could have taken them, Eda told them to run. The trio thought they managed to get away when suddenly a hole opened up under Masha, and they were swallowed up. After that, Masha woke up in the back of a wagon and tried to use their limited magic to get away, but that had only made the scout that dragged them out laugh and claim they'd 'found one'. Whatever that meant. After that they had been put in their current cage.

The other prisoner sighed, "I'm sorry. It seems they mistook you for one of us. I'm Five, and I'm a basilisk."

Masha tilted their head, "Why would they think I'm like you? Also with pretty eyes like yours I understand why they say basilisks can turn people to stone."

Five looked confused, "We can't do that. We're magic eating demons and shapeshifters." Five blushed, "And please don't make fun of me. My eyes aren't pretty or anything like that. We shouldn't even exist... I shouldn't exist. We went extinct a long time ago." Five looked like they were about to cry, and Masha rushed to the edge of the bars before extending and reaching out a hand.

Masha smiled, "Names Masha, Vee, and please don't say things like that. I'm happy you're not extinct because if you were... I'd never have gotten the chance to meet you. So what do you say, beautiful? Feel like giving me a smile?"

Five's eyes bulged and she blushed, "What did you call- SWEET BABY TITAN YOUR HUMAN!"

Masha chuckled, "All my life. Don't worry cutie. My friend Luz will save us. She'd never abandon me. Luz is like... the best older sister anyone could ask for without needing to actually be related. She's always been there for me, and has given me so much. Don't worry. She'll come, and when she does I'll make sure to take you with us."

Vee sniffled and reached out to hold Masha's hand tenderly as she whispered, "Thank you. Thank you, for... for everything." Masha just smiled and used their thumb to make comforting circles and the basilisk's hand as they waited for their inevitable rescue.

Elsewhere a desperate Luz was pacing the living room of Eda's home, the Owl House, while Eda sat on the couch with King in her lap watching her go. Luz growled, "We have to save Masha! Their mine, and nobody steals what's mine."

Eda chuckled, "Didn't know she was your girlfriend, kid. Good for you."

The pure rage in Luz's suddenly black eyes made Eda flinch, "First, Masha's not a girl, they're non-binary, and don't forget it. Second, eww. They're like a little sibling, so even if they were a girl... still eww. Third, this is your fault. Those guards wanted you, and your screaming got their attention, so I expect some help saving them. Now, how are we doing this?"

Eda tilted her head, "Ok, sorry about misgendering your friend, first of all. More importantly, what in Tartarus are you? I thought you were both human?"
