Edward stood frozen in disbelief, his heart pounding wildly in his chest as he watched Anthony. His friend—no, his childhood companion—was now standing over the body of Duke William Hamilton, a notorious figure of their city. It was impossible to reconcile the man he knew with the legend of the Green Phantom, the feared assassin of the infamous thieving guild.

Earlier, Edward had bolted from the Attenborough manor, driven by a singular, desperate thought of where Anthony might have gone. The journey to the Hamilton estate was long and daunting but propelled by anxiety and determination, he had sprinted, fueled by the need to prevent his friend from committing an irreversible act.

Upon reaching the mansion, he found the grand halls eerily silent, their opulence tainted by an unsettling stillness. The air was thick with tension, and as he crept closer to the study, a cacophony of hushed voices pricked at his senses. When he burst into the room, the sight before him was one he would never forget: Anthony, his friend, stood over the lifeless form of the Duke, his knuckles glistening with crimson—an unsettling contrast against the pale flesh and opulent furnishings of the study.

Edward's instinct was to rush to Anthony, to offer him solace, to pull him from the darkness surrounding that moment. But then he overheard the low murmur of guards conspiratorially discussing the need to hide the body, their whispers laced with admiration as they referred to Anthony as the Green Phantom. A chill ran down Edward's spine; he had heard the terrifying tales of the man with the haunting green eyes, the ruthless figure who struck fear into the hearts of many. Yet, how could he reconcile those chilling stories with the man he had laughed with, whom he had trusted implicitly?

Disgust washed over him as realization dawned—how naive he had been to think he could save Anthony from himself. With a steely resolve settling in his core, Edward turned away, each step heavy with heartbreak and disbelief, leaving behind the shattered remnants of the friendship that once was. He felt the weight of Anthony's firm hand resting on his shoulder, a gesture that was meant to convey reassurance, but he violently shrugged it off. His piercing blue eyes burned with anger as he turned to glare at his former friend. "Edward, please listen to me. I...."

"No!!!" Edward yelled pushing Anthony away, " You're a killer, a murderer. I do not wish to listen to you."

"Please, just give me a chance to explain..." Anthony pleaded his voice a strained whisper that lingered in the air. But with a heavy sigh, he turned on his heel and strode away, the tension in his shoulders palpable. After a few steps, he glanced back, his eyes blazing with determination. "Stay away from my family, Anthony. I mean it. Stay away from Anya." His words, sharp and resolute, sliced through the silence, leaving an unmistakable warning hanging between them.

Edward's walk back to the Attenborough manor felt like a journey through a storm, both outside and within. The afternoon sky loomed overhead, thick and heavy with dark clouds, mirroring the tumultuous thoughts racing through his mind. He could scarcely fathom how he had allowed the notorious Green Phantom, Anthony, to step foot inside his home. A criminal—one whose name was whispered with disdain—he threatened to shatter the veneer of respectability Edward had worked tirelessly to maintain. The weight of his family's potential disgrace and financial ruin hung over him like an oppressive fog, leaving him paralyzed by uncertainty.

What could he possibly say to Anya? She had grown inexplicably close to Anthony in the past few days, warmed by his presence—like the sister he remembered before the tragedy that had befallen them. Now, with the revelation of Anthony's true identity looming over them, Edward feared that this newfound joy would be ripped away, leaving her vulnerable to the darkness that so often plagued her heart.
