The path ahead was narrow, overgrown, and shrouded in mist as they ventured deeper into the ancient forest. This part of the Grove was untouched by time, where the trees stood taller and the air was thick with magic, both old and untamed. Lila could feel the orb's pulse faintly in her chest, a constant reminder that the power she had tapped into wasn't dormant, but waiting—growing stronger as they neared the heart of the forest.

The group moved in near silence, the gravity of their mission weighing on them. Rhys, ever the warrior, led the way with his sword drawn, scanning the shadows for any signs of danger. Kaela walked just behind him, her keen eyes darting through the trees, her hand resting on her bow. Aiden stayed close to Lila, his presence both reassuring and protective, while Ella lingered at the back, her staff glowing faintly with the protective magic she had cast around them.

As they pushed forward, Lila's thoughts swirled with the questions that had haunted her since they left the heart-tree. What lay at the center of the curse? How deeply was she tied to the orb's magic, and what would happen if she couldn't control it when the time came?

The forest around them grew denser, the air cooler. Strange, ancient symbols carved into the bark of the trees began to appear, glowing faintly with a bluish light. Lila felt a shiver run down her spine as they passed them.

"Those are wards," Ella murmured softly, her voice hushed as if speaking too loudly would wake something. "They were placed here centuries ago to keep the forest's magic contained."

Kaela glanced at the symbols with a frown. "Why would they need to contain the magic? What's hiding in here?"

Ella shook her head, her expression grim. "Not what—who. There were guardians of this forest once. Powerful beings, long before the Grove came to be. The texts Elder Rowan spoke of might have belonged to them."

"Great," Rhys muttered, his grip tightening on his sword. "Ancient beings. Why is it always ancient beings?"

The further they went, the darker it became. The trees seemed to crowd them, their branches twisting overhead like skeletal fingers, and the ground was littered with roots that rose and fell like the ribs of some sleeping giant. Lila could feel the orb's power growing stronger, pulling her deeper into the forest, almost as if it were guiding her.

After what felt like hours of walking, they finally reached a clearing. In the center stood an enormous stone structure, half-covered in vines and moss. It was ancient, older than anything Lila had ever seen in the Grove. The entrance was framed by two massive statues of cloaked figures, their faces obscured, but their presence unmistakable. This was the place.

"Is that it?" Aiden asked, stepping forward cautiously.

"It has to be," Lila whispered, feeling the orb's pull grow stronger.

Ella stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the statues. "These were the guardians. The ones who kept the magic of the forest in balance. They're long gone now, but their knowledge might still be within."

As they approached the entrance, the air around them seemed to thicken, a low hum vibrating through the ground. Lila's heart raced as the orb's magic surged within her, the energy almost too much to contain. She placed a hand on the stone wall, and to her surprise, the vines covering the entrance began to writhe and pull away, revealing a hidden doorway.

"Looks like the orb wants us to go inside," Kaela said, her voice edged with caution.

"Or it's leading us into a trap," Rhys muttered, though he stepped forward, ready to face whatever lay beyond.

Lila took a deep breath and stepped through the entrance, her friends close behind. The inside of the structure was dark and cool, the air filled with the scent of damp earth and old stone. Their footsteps echoed as they made their way down a long corridor, lit only by the faint glow of Ella's staff.
