Scroll to the bottom to read the frustrating email that Pinterest dropped in my inbox last night.
Now, although I've received the same automated message several times before, I am COMPLETELY SICK OF IT now. AI either has to start cleaning up its act—or it can hit the retirement home early because in this day and age, it is clearly not functioning the way that it should. I specifically have three problems with the false accusation of having violated these so-called "Community Guidelines":
1) OK, I totally agree with the fact that suicide and depression shouldn't be normalized or romanticized, but we also can't go around pretending that people don't experience such dark emotions. We cannot constantly soften this harsh reality with a blanket of sunshine and silver linings. Although I wouldn't exactly describe the weather associated with a blizzard as pleasant, it still exists. And if we ignore the truth by blindly stepping out into the storm, then we'll only end up being pelted by hailstones.
2) I don't want a stupid robot rifling through my interests only for it to inaccurately classify them as inappropriate and then remove them from my account in the same manner you might scrub the bottom of your shoe against the pavement to scrape that sticky smear of gum from your sole.
And what's with the "these rules also apply to your secret pins". Like, bro. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of creating a private board—the point being for no one else (and nothing else) to access or interfere with the stuff you saved? I don't want a piece of shallow software sticking its nose in my personal business and randomly deciding that my passion shouldn't be seen by others without properly analyzing the material, especially when nobody else could even view it in the first place and get a fair chance at being offended by it. If my pins keep getting deleted at this rate, I'm afraid I won't have anything left to go back to by the end of the month.😖😫😒😮💨
3) Is this beloved visual discovery engine and its judgemental protocols even aware of how much explicit content is available on social media platforms, including Pinterest itself? Why not focus on THOSE pins instead of breaking MY door down!
Finally, to end things off on a resentful note, here's an example of the type of poem that Pinterest most likely deleted:
Just a cut.
Just a scratch.
"What's that mark?"
"Oh I fell"
Just an excuse
Just a lie."What's with all the bracelets?"
"Just thought they were cute"
Just an excuse.
Just a lie.Except it's not just an excuse, or a lie.
It's always 'just one more'
Until you die.Sincerely,
inside.thoughtss
