As the first term at Hogwarts continued, Evelyn and Regulus grew accustomed to their routines. In their Defense Against the Dark Arts class, Evelyn quickly rose to the top, her skill and quick thinking catching the professor's eye. Regulus, meanwhile, was also highly adept at defensive spells, something that didn't surprise Evelyn; she had always sensed a sharp, determined quality in him.
One day, the professor paired them together for a challenging spell practice. They stood opposite each other, wands at the ready. Regulus eyed her thoughtfully, a small smirk on his face. "Think you can handle me, Potter?" he teased, though there was no malice in his tone. Evelyn grinned, raising her wand. "Guess we'll see, Black."
They sparred carefully, both skilled enough to counter each other's spells. Evelyn's Ravenclaw classmates watched with wide eyes as she matched regulus's strength and precision, deflecting his hexes and returning them with equal intensity. By the end of the practice, the professor praised them both, awarding points to Ravenclaw and Slytherin for their exceptional control and skill.
After class, Regulus lingered by the doorway, waiting for her. "You're pretty good," he admitted, a rare compliment from him. "So are you," she replied, feeling a sense of pride and camaraderie. "You're not like most Slytherins."
Regulus raised an eyebrow, a hint of defensiveness creeping into his expression. "What's that supposed to mean?" "Just that you're.... different," she said with a shrug, but quickly added, "ina good way." They walked in silence for a while, the only sound the echo of their footsteps down the stone corridors. It was an unspoken understanding-a truce between houses, a shared respect that would keep them from falling into the rivalry that separated so many others.
After classes, Evelyn walked into the Great Hall for lunch with Barty. It was all peaceful until someone interrupted their meal, James ran into the Great Hall with a mischievous grin on his face, interrupting Evelyn's conversation with Barty as he pulled her arm. "Sorry, Barty. I'll be needing my little sister for something really important. Don't bother waiting for her, she won't be back for a while," he exclaims as he rushes out the Great Hall with Evelyn being drag by her arm with him, leaving Barty feeling confused.
"And may I ask what 'something really important' is?" "Oh, you'll see it later. I have two important things," he turned to look at her, still dragging her through the hallway. As they reaches the library, Evelyn looks at him confused. "Have you hit your head and suddenly wants to study or what?" she playfully starts searching for any head injury at James. He rolls his eyes, continue to drag Evelyn inside to find the rest of the marauders sitting at the quiet corner of the library.
"Evie! We've been waiting for you, our little bright witch." Sirius says dramatically, acting like he was dying. Remus, on the other hand, looked drained out, while peter just smile at her politely. The two Potter take a seat, across from each other, with the group. Evelyn rolled her eyes, grinning at Sirius's demeanor, before her attention shifted to the tired looking boy. "Are you okay, Remus? You look.... awful," she said, trying to find the right words but failed.
"This is the important thing is, Evie. We thought, we could trust you and help us in the process," James explained, catching Evelyn's full attention about this secret. "Well, we found out that Remus had a little wolfy problem last year, so we did some research. We want to help him during his transformation, to make it less painful somehow, the problem is we can't get close to him in human form. So what do you think if we become an animagi, an unregistered one, to help our friend here,"
"Wait, stop right there," Evelyn stopped James before he starts mumbling again. "Let me get this straight, you telling me Remus here is suffering with lycanthropy, you guys want to become an animagi, an unregistered one too, at a young age? Do you even think it is possible? It is a difficult spell to master."
"Anything for our Moony. Besides don't you think it is cool to be an animagi? And we're sure with your help, we can do it. Using your big brain of yours for something cool." Sirius said, trying to convince the little Potter. Evelyn looked skeptical at first, reluctantly she agreed, they start to search for anything that can help them about becoming an animagus.
"Didn't you said there is two important thing, James?" Evelyn got distracted with his remarks before and turn to James. All the marauders turned to James, grinning, James mischievous smirk spread across his face. "We might have set up some exploding confetti in the Great Hall, you know for a little harmless prank, I just saved you, you're welcome."
Evelyn looked over at Sirius, trying to contain his laughter in the quiet library, chuckling softly. almost sounding like a chocking donkey. Evelyn shakes her head at the thought of the chaos in the Great Hall, confetti flying around, annoyed professors, screaming students. "You guys are crazy," she exclaimed, grinning and continue their research about animagi.
