Every year Cody, Amanda, Eric, and I have a tradition each October. To get as scared as we possibly can and to scare each other. Each year there is a prize that no one wants to miss out on. Last year was spending Halloween night in Ireland the year before that was playing a small role on a very popular Halloween film. And this year is the best of all. Exception from the 2025 scare games. I have yet to win but this year I'm making it my life's mission to get this prize. Every year I go to sleep on September 30th in complete and udder terror of what the next month is to bring. We finally agreed on a group scare activity; to attend a haunted house. But that house in question is notorious for being the scariest haunted house ever. We traveled for 2.5 days from our busy Manhattan townhomes to the desolate town of Williamsville Michigan to take part of the scariest haunted house on opening night. Blood creek hotel. This hotel is so prestigious that you have to buy tickets 6 months in advance and it's only open the week before Halloween. We barely got our tickets. Tickets require everyone to dress in their scariest costumes so that way it's harder to tell who's an actor and who isn't. Every year the attractions are different but they are kept secret from everyone. Before entering we have to sign a bunch of paperwork stating that we cannot talk about anything that we see or experience on the inside and that they are not liable for anything that happens to us while we're in there. About half of the ticket holders leave when they see that and the other half, the ones like us. Well let's just say we should've left when we had a chance. So there we are waiting in line at the most terrifying haunted house in the world when I feel a tap on my shoulder. Already riddling with anxiety I scream and jump something I shouldn't have done. It was just Cody in his gore vampire costume.
"Damn Shelby why are you so jumpy?" He remarks with a laugh.
"Yeah girl you need to lighten up otherwise your gonna lose this year too" taunts AmandaI just roll my eyes and half laugh it off my SFX makeup is making it hard to move my face. Amanda wanted to go as a duo costume so she chose the Grady Twins from the shining. I really wish she would've chose a warmer costume as it's currently 40 degrees with a heavy breeze. We are both shivering waiting in line hoping that the hotel still has heat in it. Luckily we are the next ones to go in.
Eric remarks "Everyone's costumes are so good I doubt we will win the contest. I can't even tell that there are people under that makeup and clothing."
Amanda snarls "Oh shut up Eric don't ruin the fun for us."
His zombie costume is good but he's right that we don't look real you can tell we have makeup on, all of us. I give him a wry smile trying to console him without getting chewed out myself. Finally it's time for us to enter. We all feel a wave of excitement rush through the group as we enter. When we walk in the air is stale and damp. There is a slight draft throughout the heavy atmosphere making what should've been 65 degrees feel like 5 degrees.
"I can't see anything where are the lights?" Cries Amanda. Suddenly we hear her shriek in terror as lights all flash on around us leaving us blinded temporarily. When our vision starts to adjust we see a hooded figure behind Amanda holding a tray of flashlights. Some of which are on the floor around her.
"Ha I guess I'm a little jumpy myself" she says shyly.
We all take a flashlight and walk slowly into the next room fading from the bright light to a very dim room where the source of light is not at all apparent.
"Which way do we go" questions Eric.
"Wherever we want" laughs Amanda as she runs into the darkness of the next room. Cody Eric and I all exchange a look of regret and slowly follow after Amanda turning our flashlights to it's brightest setting so that we may see all the wonders around us.
Amanda was running through room to room trying to see every attraction as fast as possible."Amanda slow down we have all the time in the world to look at this hotel" yells Cody
Slowly traveling through the hotel making sure to stop and appreciate all the decorations.
