Chapter 3: The Plan

Faerie Land:

"Smile, my darling!" Tino's father said.

Tino gave off a very fake looking smile. The two walked down the steps into the Spring Ball.

"A real smile."

"This is one of my better ones!" Tino said, keeping up his fake smile.

"You used to love the Spring Ball."

"Dad. I'm just too old for this!"

"I just want the happy Tino I used to know!"

"I'm happy!" Tino's smile slipped away, "I'm happy."

The King smiled brightly, "I hope you're happy enough to dance with your father!"

A familiar voice broke through the crowd, "Or someone even better!"

Tino and his father turned to look and came face to face with Mathias. Mathias' blonde hair stood up straight as usual and his eyes twinkled.

"Mathias!" Tino hissed.

"Here I am!" Mathias began.

"Dad!" Tino growled, turning to glare at his father.

"On my knees again!"

Tino practically glared a hole through Mathias' skull.

"I'd do anything! Just to make it right!" Mathias said, using one hand to make his hair stand up straighter.

"I am so onto that hair thing!"

"Say you understand! Come on, Tino!"

Tino flew down from the stairs and onto the floor, he whispered to Mathias, "You cheated on me! Remember?"

"You left me at the altar!" Mathias stated, pretending to stab himself.

Mathias then broke out into a song and dance. Tino growled and crossed his arms. Mathias held out a hand to Tino. Tino slapped it away and began to advance. Mathias backed up into the fountain. Tino chased Mathias up the stairs and to the door.

"I don't need you!" Tino snarled, pushing Mathias out and slamming the door on his wing.

Tino turned to the rest of the people at the ball and smiled, "Now that was fun!"

Emil stood beside their father, "Awkward."

Outside of the Ball:

Mathias pulled his wing out of the door and growled. Three soldiers slammed open the door and hit him with it. They were talking about what had just happened.

"So much for King Mathias." One of the soldiers said.

"You think I can't be king!?" Mathias barked at them.

The soldiers seemed frightened, they raised their fists, "King Mathias!"

Mathias waved the soldiers away and sat on the steps. He needed the marry Tino to become King. Tino hated him. He had heard about mysterious love potions, but to get one of those, he would have to enter the Dark Forest. Out of nowhere, Leon came out of the door from the ball and looked through the opening. Mathias looked as well. He saw that the elf was watching Prince Emil dance around. Mathias felt a lightbulb pop over his head.

"Hey! Elf boy!" Mathias said.

Leon jumped a bit and then looked up at Mathias, "Hey! Tino smashed you pretty bad!"

Mathias looked angry for a split second before suddenly pretending to cry.

Leon shook his head, falling for the gag, "Man, you got it bad!"

Leon sat beside Mathias on the steps. Leon daydreamed about Emil for a moment before being snapped out of it by Mathias' bit of subliminal messaging.

"If only I could make her love me! Maybe with a love potion!" Mathias 'cried'.

"A love potion!" Leon said, standing up.

"That's a great idea!" Mathias said, smacking Leon's back and sending his flying to the bottom of the stairs.

"But only the Sugar Plum Fairy can make love potions and she's locked in the Dark Forest! No one has ever come out of there alive!" Leon pondered.

"But I know that you can!" Mathias said.

"Sure, but why can't you?"

"I'm too big! My armor is too-" Mathias paused to shine light in Leon's eyes with his armor, "Shiny!"

Leon nodded, "I'll do it! I'll get a love potion for me and for you!"

Leon ran off to prepare for his trip into the forest. Mathias smiled mischievously and rubbed his hands together.

Near the Edge of the Dark Forest:

Leon walked close to the Dark Forest and relayed the plan to himself. He needed a Primrose to bring to the Sugar Plum Fairy so that he could make a love potion. Leon looked up at the usual spot that the Primroses grew. All of them had been cut down by the goblins. Leon pondered this a moment before remembering the Primrose that Tino had hid that morning. Leon pulled the Primrose from its hiding spot and began his trek into the forest.
