The night was thick and oppressive, filled with the acrid smell of smoke and the crumbling remains of Ninjago City. The chaos of the recent battle had left buildings shattered, their charred silhouettes looming over the rubble-strewn streets. Lloyd maneuvered through the shadows, searching for survivors or any lingering enemies. The city was finally quiet, but a tense quiet—the kind that made his skin prickle. Even the air seemed to hold its breath.

And then he saw her.

For a moment, he thought he was imagining things, that his mind was conjuring ghosts from the smoke and shadows. But the figure moved with a grace he recognized, a way of holding herself even in the ruins that struck something deep within him. The pale figure stepped into a narrow slant of moonlight, and his heart clenched.

It was her—Harumi. The girl who had betrayed him, the girl he'd thought he lost under the rubble, gone in a single, brutal collapse. And yet here she stood, alive. Somehow.

Lloyd's first instinct was to reach for his weapon, but his arm froze, suspended by disbelief and a torrent of emotions he couldn't fully name. "Harumi," he breathed, the word barely a whisper. It wasn't a question. It was a statement that felt more like a punch to his chest.

Her eyes met his, steady but hesitant, and he saw something there he hadn't seen before—something almost like remorse. "Lloyd," she replied softly, her voice carrying an edge he couldn't quite read. Fear? Regret?

He took a step forward, but his mind was racing, trying to process what he was seeing. The last time he'd looked at her, she'd been buried under tons of steel and concrete, her face frozen in that cruel, triumphant smile. She had sided with his father's dark side. She had betrayed him—betrayed them all. And yet here she was, looking at him with eyes that seemed almost... human.

"Is this some kind of trick?" he demanded, his voice sharper than he intended. He didn't care. If she was here to manipulate him again, she'd have to work a lot harder than last time.

Harumi shook her head slowly. "No trick, Lloyd. I... I survived. Somehow."

"Somehow?" He crossed his arms, feeling the weight of every broken promise and whispered betrayal. "I watched you get crushed. I saw it with my own eyes. And now you just walk away and expect me to believe that you're—what? Back from the dead?"

Her face fell, but she held her ground. "I don't expect you to believe anything, Lloyd. I know what I did. I know what I've done... to you." Her voice softened, and for a fleeting moment, he thought he saw a hint of the girl he'd once trusted. "I shouldn't have come here, but I needed you to know that... that I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" He laughed, a cold, bitter sound. "That's what you came back to say? After everything you put us through, after you turned this city into a warzone, you think 'sorry' is going to make it better?"

Harumi winced but didn't look away. She took a cautious step closer, close enough that he could see the shadows under her eyes, the slight tremor in her hands. She didn't look like the confident, vengeful princess he remembered. She looked... worn. Tired.

"Lloyd, I know I don't deserve forgiveness. I don't even expect it." Her voice wavered, and for a moment, he thought he saw a flicker of the vulnerability she used to hide so well. "But I can't keep running from what I did."

He clenched his fists, trying to push down the rush of emotions her words stirred within him. "So that's it? You just stroll back in, throw out a half-hearted apology, and think we're good? Think I'm good?"

She looked away, swallowing hard. "I don't think that, Lloyd. I know I've hurt you more than anyone ever has. I know I crossed lines that can't be uncrossed. And I know you'll probably never trust me again."

"'Probably'?" His voice rose, a thread of anger unraveling from the control he struggled to keep. "There's no 'probably' about it, Harumi. You made your choice. You chose the Sons of Garmadon, you chose power, and you chose to destroy everything in your path. Including me."

Her expression tightened, as if each word he threw at her struck a deeper chord. "You're right," she said softly. "I did choose those things. And I'll live with that choice every day. But I... I had to try. I had to try to make amends, even if it's too late."

Lloyd bit his lip, searching her face for any sign that she was lying. He wanted to believe she was, because if she wasn't, if there was even a chance she was sincere, it made things... complicated. Too complicated. He didn't want to feel anything for her other than the anger that still simmered, the betrayal that still stung. But as he looked into her eyes, he saw something unexpected—guilt. Real, unmasked guilt.

"You don't just get to walk back into my life, Harumi," he said, his voice lower but no less intense. "You don't get to say a few words and erase everything you did. People don't change that fast."

"I know." She met his gaze, steady but sad. "I don't expect you to trust me. And if you tell me to leave, I will. But please... let me help. There's more happening here than you realize. This city's still in danger."

He wanted to tell her to go, to turn his back and walk away. But he knew she was right. They were still vulnerable, still exposed. If there was even a sliver of truth in her offer to help, he couldn't afford to turn it down.

"Fine," he said through gritted teeth. "You want to help? Prove it. But don't think for a second that this makes up for what you did. One wrong move, and you're out. Permanently."

A shadow crossed her face, a mix of resignation and a fleeting sadness. "Understood."

He nodded sharply, forcing himself to turn and walk ahead of her, keeping his back to her as they moved through the wreckage. The anger was still there, simmering just beneath the surface, but something else twisted with it—something raw and unfamiliar. He told himself it was nothing, just a fleeting memory of a time before she had betrayed him.

But as they made their way through the ruins, a tense silence hanging between them, Lloyd knew that this was only the beginning of whatever storm had just re-entered his life. And for now, all he could do was keep his guard up and hope he wouldn't pay for letting her come back into his world, even in the smallest way.
