As the clock struck ten, I glanced over and thought, Maybe I should give Naina a heads-up about this whole mess. I shot her a quick text first, just to check if she was awake or power-napping.

You: sup? how's it to have the whole room to yourself? [22:11]

Naina: awesome, actually don't be mad-your side of the bed is occupied by Dev tho, so can't say the whole bed but yeah, it's still best. [22:17]

You: the hell? anyway, i'm coming back tomorrow, ig. gonna be driving, so can't say exactly when but yeah, I'll be home tomorrow. [22:21]

Naina: bitch-

My phone lit up with her incoming call, and I let out a sigh. "Just what I needed," I muttered, half-grinning, half-frustrated.

"Yeah? What do you want? And is Dev still next to you?" I snapped, not exactly hiding my irritation.

"The hell? You said you'd be gone for two months, Mira! What's going on? And by road? Do you have any idea how far Mumbai is from your place?" she yelled.

"Yeah, Naina's right," I heard Dev chime in, "Driving alone, especially at night? Not the safest idea." I had to roll my eyes at that. Not only had she snuck Dev over, but apparently my side of the bed had been fully taken over too. Offended on behalf of my blanket.

"Something happened, okay? Long story short-I low-key hate everyone here right now, and I just need to get out. Nani says she won't let me leave, so... I'm running away," I explained, the bitterness in my voice coming through loud and clear.

"Oh, hell," Naina muttered. She knew me well enough to realize how serious things had gotten if I was even thinking about leaving like this.

"Hold up," Dev said, "If you can't book a flight for yourself, we can do it for you, right?"

"Oh, yeah," Naina agreed. "That way, your Nani won't see any suspicious emails. It's only your work account connected to the house computer, right?"

"Actually, that's... a great idea. I was dreading getting pulled over for acting sketchy," I admitted, relief creeping into my voice.

"I'll book it right now," Dev said, already on it.

"Yep, we've got this," Naina added. "But seriously, Mira, what happened?"

"I told you already," I replied, brushing it off.

"Mira... there's more to it, I know there is. But whatever, we'll talk about it in person. I'll pick you up with Dev tomorrow. We'll let you know when we're 20, maybe 25 minutes out. Just pack your stuff and be at the airport."

Was I ready for this?

No, absolutely not.

But was I going to go through with it?
