Today, I noticed Mystara sitting alone in the lunch hall, picking at her food with a distant look on her face. I felt a strange pull to go over, like maybe she needed someone to sit with as much as I did. I gathered my courage and slid into the seat across from her, offering a small smile.

She looked up, surprised at first, but then her face softened. "Hey," she said quietly, as if unsure I would really stay.

We talked about the usual things at first—school, classes, teachers. But gradually, our conversation drifted to things that felt a little heavier. I told her that sometimes I feel like I don’t really fit in anywhere. Her eyes softened, and she nodded.

"I get that," she replied. "It’s like… sometimes you can be surrounded by people and still feel invisible." Her voice was steady, but I sensed a hint of sadness behind her words. I wanted to ask her more, but something held me back. We both seemed to understand that certain things were better left unsaid.

Instead, we shared stories about times when we both felt left out, like the world had moved on without us. She told me about a day she spent at a party, feeling like she was watching from the outside. I shared how sometimes I feel the same, even with people I’ve known forever. I realized then that we both had our own invisible walls, quietly guarding parts of ourselves.

We didn’t push each other to open up more. Just knowing there was someone else who understood—even a little bit—was enough. There was a comfort in our silence, a feeling of connection that didn’t need words.

As the lunch bell rang and we got up to head back to class, Mystara gave me a small smile. "Maybe we can sit together again tomorrow?" she asked, her voice hopeful but hesitant.

"Yeah," I said, feeling lighter than I had in a long time. "I’d like that."

For the first time in a while, I didn’t feel completely alone. Maybe, just maybe, I’d found someone who understood, without needing to know all my secrets.
