When girls go to college do they forget?
Do they forget
the lunch dates with mom
the tears shared together
the unconditional
Do they remember to call?
To send love?
To say happy birthday?
When mothers' girls go to college do they remember?
Remember to take time for themselves
To be patient and kind
To set boundaries and earn respect
Do they remember the lessons mom taught them?
When they call mom every night,
Will they ever forget to say goodbye and "I love you"?
Because they are scared it will be the last call
Because they know they have a home
Because they how much it means to mom
When she is the one who remembers
Who remembers the lunch dates
The tears
The unconditional
Who showed her to take time for herself
To be patient and kind
Who set boundaries and have respect
She remembers the first steps
The time you wrote your name in crayon
The smell of your baby shampoo
The things you've forgotten
And all of the things you'll forget
