"Come on! Why are you so slow?"
"You have legs, Einstein."
"Yes, but you've been down here for many more years than I have. Aren't you used to it by now?"
Kode stopped at a large steel door with two wheel-like handles on them. They spun them in opposite directions and with an earsplitting screech and a hissing of gears, the doors parted to the next room. Sebastian ducked behind the doors as a bright orange light illuminated the hallway. Kode however simply leapt backwards as a hook shot their way and skidded to the end of the hall before stabilizing themself. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!" Sebastian barked, lashing his tail in irritation. "YOU COULD HAVE JUST DIED THERE, YOU FOOL!" Kode simply smirked and rolled their eyes as they stepped back towards the entrance. "I'm not going to even get scratched by these things." They snickered. "Watch."
"WAIT A SECON-"
But Kode was already darting towards the lights, dodging hooks flying left and right. "See? It's perfectly fi-"
An orange light illuminated them from the back, and without time to react, a sharp hook pierced through their chest. "Fuck." They muttered, unsheathing their claws and fumbling to try and reach around to slash the connection between themself and the creature. Right before the Searchlight was about to pull the robotic feline into it's mouth, Kode got a decent angle and sliced through the ropelike strand connecting the hook to the animal. But not before the creature jerked sharply, resulting in the hook tearing itself out of their chest. Oil poured onto the ground, seeping through the torn fabric and staining Kode's stark white fur. "Well that ain't good.."
Sebastian was too scared for his own life to risk going out and helping them. He stayed frozen in place behind the door as he watched the carnage of the next few minutes unfold. The rest of the hooks from the animal heading for the feline, who was trying to dodge them, but one after another they pierced through Kode's torso as they desperately tried to cut themself free as more and more tore into their flesh and created gashes in their body. "Sebastian..! Help me!!" They screeched, as their stomach was ripped open by another hook tearing free from their torn jumpsuit and shredded fur. He made a split decision. He still had his gun. The guards had suspected he was harmless with handcuffs. Now was his chance to use it.
In about three seconds, the Searchlight lay dead, bleeding out from bullet holes all over it's body. And Kode...
Sebastian gingerly picked them up, his own clothes quickly becoming spattered with oil. He felt a sharp pain in his shoulder, and noticed that Kode's unsheathed claws had dug into him when he'd lifted them from the ground. No matter, he needed to get them patched up, fast. He started off as quickly as he could back to the shop. This was not good...
(NOTE: This is explaining what happened with the Searchlights. The next chapter will be a continuation from the one before this.)
