Nishimura Riki, a young psychology student, could not imagine how his meeting with a notorious serial killer in Seoul would turn out. It was an ordinary day out of a thousand. Riki woke up early to get everything done before he had to go to the university. Today was the start of his internship at one of the most famous psychiatric hospitals in Seoul. But first, they had to get a practice assignment from Professor Lee before they could go on site. Riki was very excited to finally get to know his future profession. He had been interested in medicine since childhood and had always told his parents that he wanted to become a doctor. They were only happy for their son and supported him in all his endeavors. He realized that the closest he was interested in psychology, he always strived to understand people better, their motives and what moves them. He always kept in his head the idea that maybe the world just does not understand some people, or maybe their brain works differently since no one knows what is the norm. He wanted to try various treatments that the professors at the university had told him about and that he had read about himself. He was also interested in diving into the process of researching human psychology himself. What drives people who commit crimes? Why do they choose a certain type of victim? How do they plan? It all seemed so interesting and exciting to him that he couldn't wait to start practicing.
Riki and his friends pulled up to the hospital building with a sense of purpose. The enormous brick-colored building dominated the area. The building had four floors. He noticed small outbuildings to the left and was curious about their purpose. He looked up and saw a small dome behind the building, which he assumed was the local church. They strode along the path leading to the entrance, their footsteps echoing on the paved surface.
The boys confidently made their presence known at the front desk. Riki could clearly hear the headman speaking with the nurse about their arranged meeting with the handler. He was less interested in why the handler wasn't present. He was thinking about where he would be assigned and who would be in charge of supervising him.
"Students, follow me!", Riki was jolted from his thoughts by an unfamiliar voice. He turned, ready and attentive, to the source of the sound. There, standing in front of him, was a young man in his mid-thirties. His dark hair, sharp features, prominent jawline, and mole on the bridge of his nose spoke of a strong, determined presence. His dark eyes and distinctive glasses, complemented by earrings, added a touch of individual style.
The students followed the man down the hallway until he stopped at one of the offices and invited them inside. Riki made his way to the window and took a seat, eager to get a better look at the area surrounding the hospital. Everything was completely deserted, with not the slightest indication that anyone lived nearby. The view from the window revealed only the soulless, impersonal rows of hospital walls, devoid of any movement.
"My name is Park Sunghoon, and I'm going to lay out the rules for you all. You need to follow these rules while you're inside the hospital. The rules are straightforward and few in number. I expect everyone to follow them. Your safety depends on it".
While the man was explaining the rules to everyone present, Riki was lost in his own thoughts, not really listening. He was more interested in who he would get and how well he would perform the practical task. How could he be kept here with such serious criminals? The man talking about the rules must have left out precedents. What if something happened to him here?He snapped out of his thoughts when the doctor announced that introductions were over and everyone had to come up and be introduced to their person responsible.
Riki waited patiently for his turn and strode purposefully towards the table where Dr. Park was sitting. As he drew nearer to the desk, his heart beat with greater urgency and the lump formed in his throat grew more prominent.
