Louis had always been a bit shy, preferring to avoid the spotlight, but Harry was the opposite. He was loud, outspoken, and loved to talk. Even so, when they were together, Louis felt the walls that kept him quiet melt away. Listening to Harry's animated conversation, seeing his wide smile and hearing his carefree laugh made any other noise fall away until it was just the two of them.

Harry loved having someone to chat to. He would talk nonstop, bouncing from topic to topic. Louis, on the other hand, was more reserved, only speaking when he felt he had something worth saying. But, he loved listening to Harry, hearing his voice, his laugh.

Harry loved the way Louis listened to him. It was different from the way others would listen to him. Louis didn't just let the words wash over him. He was engaged and interested. He would give him these little hums of agreement, his eyes would look at him with complete attention. It made everything Harry say feel important, like he mattered.

Harry always made Louis feel important, too. Louis always felt comfortable talking to Harry; even though at times they weren't that close. But no matter how much time they spent not being super close, they always knew they had each other. And to them that felt enough.

The space between them was never awkward or filled with any resentment, it was a comfortable separation, like a well worn coat, or a favorite cardigan, always there, waiting to be picked up again.

They were friends who's friendship didn't need to be a focus all the time. No need to force it, or feel like they needed to hang out all the time. They just knew that the other was there, and that was good enough.

Throughout his teenage years, Louis had trouble with anger, his emotions bubbling just below the surface, ready to boil over. He had gotten into his fair share of fights, and always had an edge to his personality. Despite this, there was one person who was the exception to his anger, Harry.

Being around Harry made something in him relax, the tension in his body melted away, and he was left feeling calm and at peace. He didn't know exactly why Harry had such an effect on him, but he wasn't going to question it. It's better this way anyway.

Harry was never good around anger, it made him uncomfortable and scared. Being a teenager, he often felt angry about things, but he didn't let it show. Instead he would internalize all of his emotions, including his anger, and put up a wall to hide how he really felt.

Because he was afraid of not being liked, he would rather keep his true feelings locked away rather than risk someone thinking bad of him for expressing them.

Harry was an anxious person to begin with, but when he saw Louis angry, it was made worse. Seeing the person he cared for the most in that state, with his jaw clenched, and veins popping out of forehead, scared Harry. It made his heart beat faster and his chest feel tight.
