*Back to present time*
The female officer who helped me outside and into the car gets into the drivers seat, and starts the car. She tells me her name is Officer Johnson, but since there's two Officer Johnson's, her and her husband, I can call her Officer Lexi instead.
After a short while, she starts driving and tells me we're going to the police station. I completely zone out during the whole ride, and don't even realize we're at the station until I feel someone lightly shaking me, and saying something in a soft voice.
I blink a few times to clear my thoughts, and when I return to the present, I see Officer Lexi standing beside me looking worried. She helps me out of the car, and walks me inside. She then walks me to a room that has a big window looking into the hallway, another window looking into another room, and a small table in the middle of the room with two chairs on one side, and one on the other.
She leads me to the side with one chair and I sit down before she goes to the other side and sits in one of the chairs. A few minutes later, a male officer who helped walks into the room, and sits in the chair next to Lexi.
He looks at me and clears his throat. "Good morning. It's nice to meet you. I see you've already met my wife; Officer Lexi Johnson. Im her husband; Officer Liam Johnson."
He then holds his hand out, but I only stare at it, not knowing what he wants. He slowly takes it back, and clears his throat awkwardly before Lexi speaks.
"So, what is your name, honey?" She asks, and I shrug in response.
"You don't know your name?" Liam asks with a confused look, and I just shake my head.
After they both realize I haven't spoken a word since they got me out of my house, Liam asks; "Kid, can you talk?" And I shake my head, because I've never spoken a single word before.
He and Lexi glance at each other with worried looks before he turns back to me. "Can you read? Or write?" He asks, and I shake my head again, because I've never learned any of that.
Lexi blows out a breath, and Liam sighs while running a hand down his face, obviously not knowing what to do next.
Lexi speaks after a few minutes, but she's looking and talking to Liam. "Can we take her home with us for a while?"
Liam whips his head in her direction, and looks at her as if she just admitted to killing someone. "Seriously, Lex? You want to take her home?" He asks, still looking at her like she's crazy.
"Well, only for a little bit while we search for her family-" she starts, but Liam cuts her off.
"No," is all he says.
"Liam, come on. What if this was Ava? You would do it if this was her," Lexi says while crossing her arms.
"Yes. But Ava is our daughter. Not some random girl who can't even talk," Liam waves in my direction, and I just sit there.
"Liam-"
"I said no, Lexi. We're not taking this girl home," Liam cuts her off again, and I notice he seems to do that a lot.
"It would only be for a little bit. Only until we find her family! We can even help teach her things. Especially how to talk, read, and write. I mean come on, the girl looks to be about 16 years old, and with the way we found her, I doubt that man ever let her go to school," Lexi argues before turning to look at me.
