Jessica found out what happened to vampires under the sun by total accident. She was taking Rocky out on a morning walk because the failed police dog needed exercise every day. She let Rocky off-leash and he went to the woods behind the Swans house to go bother small animals. She had never been one for hiking ever since her father's forced camping trips when she was a child so she made sure to not go too far into the woods.

It was by chance she stumbled unto Edward and Bella having a conversation out in the woods. Déjà vu hit her as she remembered the last time that she saw these two in the woods. Incredulity and annoyance came next because while Jessica had promised to be nicer to Edward that didn't mean it was still okay for Bella – nay, any woman – to follow him into the woods. With the snow around them, it would muffle the sounds of being murdered (which Jessica knew from all the true crime documentaries Lauren made her watch with her.)

She was debating whether to turn around and leave these two lovesick idiots to continue whatever nauseatingly dramatic conversation they were having or to interrupt the scene just to be annoying when the clouds parted and sunlight shone down on Edward Cullen.

He was sparkling.

Like a thick coating of diamond dust was all over his skin.

She was so shocked that she just stood there and stared at him, mouth agape. Edward noticed her first. His golden eyes widening in surprise then panic. He stepped away from the sunlight as if it was burning him.

Bella turned around in her crutches, nearly slipping on the ice. "Jessica!"

Jessica looked to Bella then to Edward and back to Bella.

All she could focus on was Edward sparkling like somebody had stuck dozens of rhinestones on his skin.

She met Edward's gaze again. He was shaking his head, looking terrified.

"Don't," he said, desperately. "Don't do it."

Jessica turned back to Bella and with great difficulty, she began to ask, "Bella, did I just see what I thought I saw?"

Bella's eyebrows furrowed. "Um, what did you think you saw?"

"He..." Jessica had to take in a deep breath as the shock wore off and another emotion was overcoming her. "...was sparkling under the sun."

Bella looked to Edward. "Well, um..."

Edward pointed to Jessica and demanded, "Don't you dare laugh, Jessica!"

Jessica covered her mouth, her shoulders shaking as she tried to muffle out the giggles that were trying to escape. "I'm not!"

"Yes, you are!"

Jessica lost the battle and burst into laughter. She laughed so hard she had to lean against a tree. It was more cackling than anything else. She felt lightheaded by the time she was done.

Edward was frowning, his arm crossed over his chest. "It's not funny."

Jessica was out of breath. "You sparkle in the sun."

Edward did not smile. Edward Cullen was pouting like a little boy.

"So?" he retorted. "I don't see why you think it's so humorous."

"You sparkle in the sun," she repeated. "I think I might cry. This is so good. I have to tell Lauren."

Did Lauren know? If Lauren knew about vampires sparkling and didn't tell her Jessica was going to be very upset. This was not information you kept to yourself. Jessica was half-tempted to tell the world Alice's apocalyptic visions be damned.
