Dedication: This chapter is for Liam, whose infectious spirit and laughter brightened our lives in ways we can never fully express. His warmth, kindness, and genuine joy for life left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Liam had a unique ability to lift our spirits, remind us of the beauty in everyday moments, and encourage us to chase our dreams fearlessly. Though he may no longer be with us, his memory inspires us to embrace every moment and cherish the friendships that make life truly meaningful. In celebrating his life, let us remember to live fully, love deeply, and spread joy as he did. May we carry his spirit with us, honoring him in our hearts and actions.

The beach was everything we had hoped for. As we exited the car, the salty breeze tousled our hair, and waves crashing against the shore filled the air. We wasted no time, racing toward the sand with our arms outstretched like kids on a playground.

"Last one in's a rotten egg!" Jade shouted, kicking off her sandals and sprinting toward the water.

I laughed and followed her, the cool waves splashing against my legs as I dove in. The water was refreshing, and we squealed with delight as we splashed each other, our worries momentarily forgotten.

After a while, we settled onto our beach towels, soaking up the sun. "This is perfect," I said, leaning back and closing my eyes. The warmth felt like a comforting hug, reminding me of everything I loved about summer.

"Okay, we need to plan our next stop," Jade said, rummaging through our bag for snacks. "What about the amusement park tomorrow?"

"Yes! I can't wait to ride all the coasters!" I replied, imagining the thrill of the rides.

As we munched on chips, a group of guys nearby caught my eye. They were tossing a frisbee back and forth, laughing and joking. One of them, with messy brown hair and an easy smile, glanced our way and waved. My heart skipped a beat.

"Do you know him?" Jade asked, noticing my reaction.

"No! I mean, maybe? I think he goes to our school," I stammered, feeling a flush creep up my cheeks.

"Go talk to him!" Jade urged, a teasing grin on her face. "What's the worst that could happen?"

I hesitated, a mix of excitement and nerves coursing through me. "What if he thinks I'm weird?"

"Or what if he thinks you're amazing?" she countered. "Just go for it!"

With a deep breath, I stood up, smoothing my swimsuit cover-up. As I approached, the guys paused their game, and the one with the brown hair smiled at me.

"Hey!" he said, his voice warm and inviting. "You're not from around here, are you?"

"No, just visiting for the summer," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "I'm Amanda, and this is my friend Jade."

"Nice to meet you! I'm Liam," he introduced himself, gesturing to the others. "We're just having a little beach day. You should join us!"

Jade's eyes sparkled with mischief, and I shot her a grateful glance. "Sure, that sounds fun!" I replied, feeling a thrill of adventure.

We spent the afternoon playing frisbee, laughing, and getting to know each other. Liam was easy to talk to, sharing stories about his summer job and his favorite places to hang out. I learned that he loved art too, which sparked a connection between us.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, I felt a sense of joy I hadn't expected. "We should do this again," I said, glancing at Jade, who was enjoying herself as well.

"Definitely!" Liam agreed. "We'll be here all summer. Let's hang out!"

After exchanging numbers, we said our goodbyes, and I returned to Jade, bubbling with excitement.

"What just happened?" she squealed, giving me a playful nudge. "You hit it off with him!"

"I know! He's cool," I admitted, my heart racing. "I didn't think I'd meet anyone like him this summer."

As we packed up our things and headed back to the car, I felt a mix of happiness and lingering anxiety about my move. But at that moment, I decided to embrace the summer and all the surprises it had in store for me.

With our first day at the beach behind us, I knew this was just the beginning of an unforgettable adventure. And perhaps, just perhaps, it wouldn't be so bad to face the future with new friendships and memories to carry with me.
