Being a Natural meant you have some special talent and most of the time you didn't grow up in the best environments, take me for example. Growing up with my grandparents not knowing the real cause of my mother's death was strangulation and she died from the hands of my father- her husband.
Once I joined the Naturals, I found a real home, no lies- most of the time, just me, my friends, my girlfriend, and Judd who was like an actual father to us.
This particular case didn't go as well, we all had faults and thought without actually understanding the severity of the situation. Once we were sent home by Agent Briggs he joined us in the living room.
"We can't have any mistakes like this! You get too caught up and lose your head!" He scolds for what feels like the sixth time, Lia scoffs and storms off. She was the first, we all left one by one, Sloane and I being the last to go, Agent Sterling spoke up.
"I really do want you kids to be apart of these cases. But that can't happen if you're making small mistakes." I sigh and stroke Sloane's hand, I could tell she was really upset, "do you understand?" I nod and stand up, waiting for Sloane to join me. Once she stood up she muttered something that I couldn't hear and rushed down to the basement.
After a few hours, Lia barged into my room without warning, after almost a year living with her you get used to it, she leaned against my doorframe "where's Sloane?" She said in a less condescending way than usual.
"She went to the basement, we should go check on her." I demand, Lia chuckles, "you should go check on her. I don't wanna see you two getting it on," I stand up from my spot on the ground and glare at her.
"What is that supposed to mean?" She put her hands up in defense, "Sloane really likes you, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really admire that. But I'd never say it out loud," an airy laugh escapes my lips.
"You just did" with that, I walked past her and to the basement where I quickly found Sloane engulfed in a mock of the crime scene and a map, she repeatedly muttered to herself something along the lines of 'do better'
She started to pull at her hair, I quickly moved from the bottom of the stairs and to her side, "Sloane let go, please." I plead while trying to carefully pry her hands away from her scalp, what some people failed to understand about Sloane was that she hardly made mistakes, and when she did she never let herself forget.
"I should've done better," she cries in my arms, my heart broke as she clung onto me desperately, "let's get you upstairs, okay?" She sniffled and stood up still clinging onto me.
"I'm really proud of you, Sloane. You tried your best and that's all that matters," I said as I pulled a piece of her blond hair from her face, she finally turned to look up at me. "About 98% of the atoms in your body are replaced each year," I smiled and kissed her head."Let's go to bed, Sloaney," she quickly smoothed herself under the cover and slipped away to sleep.
