"INDIGO!"Indigo snapped her neck in the direction that she heard her name coming from.
"Girl you don't hear me talking to you? You've been sitting there looking stupid for the last 5 minutes." Victoria, Indigo's grandmother spoke.
"I'm sorry Granny." Indigo apologized as she fixed herself at the dinner table, sitting up straight, napkin over her lap, her thick spongy hair behind her shoulders.
It was Sunday and after spending hours in service, Indigo's family always met at her grandmother Victoria's house for Sunday Dinner.
"You over there in La La Land while your family is tryna talk to you." Victoria shook her head as she swallowed a forkful of greens.
"That's enough of that momma." Angela, Indigo's mother voiced.
Victoria shrugged. "It's disrespectful Angie, I raised you and your siblings better than that."
"My goodness Gran, you act like she cutting up at the table she simply zoned out, relax." Iris, Indigo's older sister spoke.
One thing Indigo loved about her sister is that no matter what she always stood up for her, especially to her grandmother.
Victoria squinted her eyes and pointed her fork at Iris. "I don't know why you're talking to me, let alone why you're even sittin' at MY table." Victoria barked.
Victoria couldn't stand Iris, her mouth was one thing but the constant disrespect was another.
Iris waved her grandmother off. "Momma invited me."
Victoria kissed her teeth. "Angela to the rescue as always."
Indigo rolled her eyes she could already tell it was going to be a long night.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Angela questioned.
"You always coming to these kids aid like they're babies." Victoria replied.
"They are MY kids!" Angela yelled.
Victoria rolled her eyes. "Where is Violet? I haven't seen my grandson in ages, how I miss him."
Angela put her fork down. "Cut the bullshit ma, you KNOW why he doesn't come around anymore."
"I WILL NOT tolerate such language at my dinner table!" Victoria barked.
Indigo let out a long tiresome sigh, she wished her family could just get along.
Violet was the oldest out of the Jackson kids, and the only boy. It was no secret that Victoria adored her grandson and she let it be known almost everyday of Indigo's existence. It wasn't always this bad until a couple months ago when Violet introduced the family to his long term girlfriend Choyce.
Choyce was what a lot of people would consider plus size and it was no secret that she was on the bigger side, but that was no issue for Violet because he didn't care about her weight he loved Choyce for who she was.
In Indigo and Iris's eyes Choyce was beyond stunning and her weight carried out in all the right places plus at the end of the day as long as their brother was happy that's all that mattered right?
In the eyes of Victoria, Choyce was an overweight, sloppy, pig and she couldn't believe that her own grandson had the nerve to bring such a thing to her dinner table.
Victoria watched as the young lady went for a second portion of mac and cheese and smothered ribs. She watched in disgust as some of the sauce from the ribs rubbed off a little around Choyce's mouth but Choyce was quick to wipe the sauce off with a paper towel.
