Lost Princess of the Fallen

Chapter 3

"Aine!" 

I spin around, my long, white dress lifting slightly. "Mother!"

She smiles warmly at me, her green eyes bright. "Aine, we found you a suitor."

My smile fades instantly, my excitement dying down. "I told you I do not wish to be found a suitor. I would much rather find my own. I do not want the love forced upon you and Father."

She sighs, not losing her smile. "He's a sweet man, big fan of adventures."

"During this war?" I frown. "Mother, that would attract too much attention."

"Aine, not another word!" she snaps suddenly, making me flinch. "He is the prince of the demons! If you marry him, this war will end!"

"I'm not marrying him!" I snap back. "A demon, no less?! You told me you want nothing to do with the demons."

She frowns at me. "I did say that before this war began. Our people are being slaughtered left and right. It's your duty as the future queen to protect the angels! Don't you want to keep them safe?"

My body fills with anger. "I found your files."

Mother freezes instantly, her already pale face growing paler. "My files...?"

I close my eyes, reciting one from memory. "Aine, age five. Taken from a different kingdom as an infant and raised as an angel. Hearing and sight intact. To be married to an angel/demon to give birth to powerful children at sixteen years of age."

She looks away. "Aine, that's enough. We'll discuss this tomorrow. Go to your room."

Without a word, I spin on my heel and walk away.

"So....you ran away because you aren't an angel?" Rosalina tilts her head.

"I'm not sure." I frown and look at her. "I can do everything an angel can. I even have the wings."

Amorus frowns as well. "Show us your wings."

I flash out my wings, pure white wings with black tips. Amorus's eyes widen as he stumbles back. Rosalina and Lucian gasp, stepping back.

"You...." Lucian whispers.

I look at them. "What?"

"You're not a regular angel, Princess." Amorus says, reaching out and touching my wings. "You're a Fallen."
