Charlie had been rifling through Gracie's wardrobe, searching for a hoodie she could borrow when her hand brushed against something unexpected—a soft, familiar fabric that made her pause. She tugged it out, her eyebrows lifting in surprise as she recognised the faded baseball jersey with navy and white stripes, along with the matching cap tucked neatly beneath it. She held the jersey up, a flood of memories rushing over her as she traced the old fabric with her fingers.

It was from their last Halloween party two years ago, the one they had attended at Heidi Klum's infamous Halloween bash. They had dressed up as Jasper and Alice from Twilight, decked out in baseball gear from that iconic scene, back when their relationship was still fresh and filled with the dizzying thrill of new love. She could still remember Gracie's laugh as she tried to pitch in heels and her determination to "stay in character" by insisting on pitching a fastball to Charlie right there on the dance floor.

Just as Charlie was lost in memory, Gracie's voice broke through. "Looking for something?"

Charlie spun around, the jersey still in her hands, her cheeks warming slightly as she realised she had been caught. "Gracie! I, uh— I was just looking for a hoodie and... found this instead." She held up the jersey with a small smile. "Didn't expect you'd still have it."

Gracie leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed and a playful smirk tugging at her lips. "Well, I guess I kept a few things I couldn't part with," she replied softly, her gaze flicking from the jersey to Charlie's face. "That night was... memorable, wasn't it?"

Charlie let out a laugh, nodding as she looked back at the jersey. "You really committed to the Alice look, you know. I remember you spent hours convincing me to get those yellow contact lenses just to 'match'," she teased, mimicking Gracie's excited tone from that night. "And then you almost fell over pitching in those ridiculous heeled boots."

Gracie laughed, her eyes lighting up at the memory. "I didn't almost fall—I had it perfectly under control. You just weren't used to my pitch."

"Right, 'under control,' sure," Charlie replied, rolling her eyes with a grin. She held the jersey up against herself, as if testing it for size. "You know, this thing still fits."

"Almost like it's meant to," Gracie said, her voice softer now, her gaze lingering on Charlie with a mixture of nostalgia and something more unspoken. "I guess I never got rid of it because... I didn't want to forget that night. Things were just... simple then."

Charlie's smile faded a touch, her fingers brushing over the jersey thoughtfully. "Yeah. It was nice, wasn't it?" She looked up, meeting Gracie's gaze with a wistful smile. "Hard to believe it was only two years ago."

Gracie nodded, her expression gentler now as she crossed the room and took the jersey from Charlie's hands, holding it between them as if it were something precious. "It was, but it feels like a lifetime, doesn't it?" She let out a small sigh. "Sometimes, I miss it. Us, the way we were then."

Charlie forces an awkward smile. "I remember more bad things than good, but it was still an unforgettable night."

The Halloween party was in full swing, the music loud, the lights dim, and the laughter constant. Gracie leaned against the bar, her eyes following Charlie as she wove through the crowd, her laugh echoing, easy and carefree. They were both dressed in baseball jerseys from Twilight, of all things—Charlie as Jasper and Gracie as Alice, the outfits a nod to one of the movies they'd watched on a lazy Sunday together, laughing at the absurdity of it but somehow loving it too. Now, they wore those jerseys with pride, the playful costumes a reminder of their inside jokes.
