"Hello?"

The sound of Casey's voice rang through the mostly empty house, putting a pause to what you were doing. Was she talking to you? It didn't sound like it. Her voice was a pitch higher than normal, in that way that people do to sound sweeter and nicer, so it was probably either her parents or Steve, her big dumb jock boyfriend.

It was safe to say you didn't like Steve.

Before you could ask what she was doing, she came around the corner and entered the kitchen, where you were busy making popcorn. It was movie night law to at least have one bag of popcorn.

Movie nights at Casey's house were a common occurrence, with just how often either of your parent(s) were out or busy with work. Staying over just made life easier, and made the big, empty house feel just a little less intimidating. Also, you loved the excuse to watch horror movies, supplied by the one and only Randy Meeks, ultimate horror know-it-all of Woodsboro California, and one of your closest friends.

"Who was that?" You asked, briefly turning away from the task at hand to raise an eyebrow at her.

"No clue, just some guy that called the wrong number. He had a sexy voice though~" She giggled, wiggling her eyebrows at you. You chuckled, admittedly a little intrigued.

"So, what do you want to watch-"

The ringing of the mobile phone to your left cut you off, and Casey gave you a knowing look. So, with a resigned sigh, you picked up the phone. Casey blew you a kiss and walked out of the room, mouthing that she was going to go choose the movie. You stuck her tongue out at her receeding form. No fair!

"Hello?"

"𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞? 𝐎𝐡- 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞..."

"Nope!" You said, popping the p, "I guess she got sick of you. You weren't trying to ask her out, were you? Because I hate to break it to you, but she has a boyfriend."

"𝐎𝐡, 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨? 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐲𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮?"

"I don't know... are you trying to ask me out?"

You had to bite back a smile. This was much more fun than you were willing to admit. When was the last time you had even flirted with a guy...? Nothing came to mind but the image of your two overprotective best friends. Oh, right. Because they always scared any boys away. Giggling to yourself, you turned back around to fiddle with the Jiffy Pop bag.

"𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞... 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝?"

"Who knows? Maybe I will if you can convince me- Ah, shit!"

Wincing, you quickly stuck your hand in the sick and turned the water on, letting the coolness soothe the already angry red mark forming on your skin.

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝? 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐲?" The guy over the phone sounded genuinely worried, and it made your heart flutter. Maybe you'd say yes to going out with him after all...

"Ah, I'm fine. Sorry about that. Just burned my hand making popcorn." You let out an annoyed chuckle. This was far from the first time this had happened. Like seriously, was making the bag out of easily heated alluminium really necessary?

"𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧? 𝐈 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐬..."

God, Casey was right, his voice was incredibly sexy. You could only wonder what kind of face went along with such an attractive voice.

"Well me and my friend are about to watch a movie!"

"𝐎𝐡? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞?"

"Oh I don't know, a scary one hopefully."

"𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐬?"

"Yeah! I like slasher movies the most. Y'know, the ones where a big murderer in a mask walks around stalking pretty girls? Just scary enough to be fun, but stupid enough to laugh at with your friends." You hoped the excitement in your voice wasn't too obvious. Weirding out the sexy phone man with your admittedly morbid interests was not on your to-do list for the night.

"𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞?"

"Hmm, guess! If you get it right I just might let you take me out~"

"𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧. 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐞... 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧?"

You lit up, dramatically gasping, "How did you know, you cheater?! You must be one of my friends from school. Is that you Randy? You know if you really wanted to ask me out you could've just asked!"

The man over the phone chuckled, "𝐍𝐨, 𝐈'𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲. 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥."

Just then Casey came around the corner, looking absolutely delighted by what she was seeing, but pretended to act otherwise.

"Alright lovebirds! You can call your mystery boyfriend later, we have a movie to watch!"

You sighed, feeling somewhat disappointed that you had to go.

"Hey man, I gotta go. Better luck next time? Maybe you'll get to ask another girl out." Damn you Ashlyn Rooks, try not to sound so disappointed.

"𝐇𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭, 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞-"

You opened your mouth to reply, but before you could answer to most likely give him your name, number, address, and bank account number, (because you were already way to invested in this man to be okay,) Casey snatched the phone out of your hand and hung up with a sassy 'she's not interested!'

"Hey!"

Casey gives you a funny look. "What?"

"I was interested, thank you very much!"

Your friend just rolls her eyes. "If he's really worth your time, he'll call you back later. Patience is key-"

The phone rang, and this time it was you giving Casey the knowing look. You went to reach for the phone, but she pulled it out of reach and wagged her finger at you, accepting the call and putting it on speaker.

"As your friend it is my job to make sure he's good for you."

Your face said enough about just how exasperated you are with her right now.

"I'm so sorry about my friend here," you start, genuinely feeling bad. He seemed like a nice guy! It would suck if he genuinely thought you weren't interested, when you really were. "We're going to watch a movie now, but how bout I give you my number so you can call me later?"

"𝐀𝐰, 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨?"

You giggle, "Why do you need my name so badly?"

"𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐈'𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭."
