The cold air felt like heaven on my skin. I was more than ready to get home.
Crunching leaves caught my attention and I turned around looking to see someone. Nothing. Maybe it was just my imagination. But before I could shake the paranoia away I heard it again.
This is exactly why Isabelle wanted to pick me up from work. My phone vibrated in my pocket and my best friends face lit up on the screen.
" Hey Jas, how ya doing? " Her playful voice carried.
" I don't really know. How are you supposed to feel when you're being followed. " I mumbled looking over my shoulder. I really needed to start listening.
" WHAT!? " She shrieked. Wincing pulling the phone away from my ear.
" Bells chill, it's probably me being paranoid. " I heard keys jingling in the background.
" Chill? My bestest friend in the whole wide universe is being followed and you want me to chill? Where are you? " She had a knack for dramatics but that only made her more loveable.
" Uh, somewhere on Buchanan road. By the park. You really don't have to come. " I could practically feel her rolling her eyes.
" I'll be there. Can we have a girls night tonight? I need a break from Brandon and it'll be fun. " She said enthusiastically.
" Of course you can babes. My bed is always open to you. " I looked behind me again, not seeing anything I walked over to the park.
" Thanks. If I have to stay in this house for another second I'm going to kill myself! " She groaned at the thought of it. Her and Brandon had a weird relationship. They would argue for 5 days straight and be in love 2.
" I don't see why you don't just leave the ass. " I said as I say down on the swing set.
" Because despite all our arguing, we love each other. I'm coming down the street. " She replied the same answer she always did. I told her okay and hung up the phone.
Another crunch of leaves had me on high alert. My heart sped up from the scare. I really didn't want to be one of those girls that went missing, never to be seen again.
I saw a pair of headlights coming down the street. I thought about making a break for it back down the street. I knew that Lou would still be there closing up.
To my relief it was Isabelle coming to my rescue. She pulled over beside the curb grinning.
" Hey baby looking for a good time. " She mocked laughing hysterically.
" It's not funny Bells, I could've been kidnapped tonight and you're making jokes. " I pouted making my way over to the passenger seat.
" Oh puh - lease, they'd probably bring you back after they heard that sailor mouth of yours. " She smiled starting the car back up.
" Oh bite me. " I muttered under my breath.
" Soo Miss Sunshine how was work? " She turned onto the busy main street.
" Let's see, my feet are sore and probably swollen. My back feels like I'm supposed to be 60. I was felt up multiple times today. I almost had to kill some high school bitch. And to add the cherry to my wonderful day I have a ear splitting migraine. " I rubbed my temples to relieve a little bit of stress.
" Well nothing a quick trip to Walmart can't fix! " Her optimistic personality often clashed with my more sarcastic and pessimistic one.
It was a shock that our friendship had lasted for the past 2 years. We had bonded over our mutual hate for rich people. It had been a fundraiser here and the place had been packed with news reporters and famous people.
