The cafe buzzed with the usual Friday night energy, but you were focused solely on the screen of your phone, your thumbs flying across the buttons. Kenma, your online gaming buddy, was supposed to meet you here in a few minutes, and you were a little nervous.

You’d been playing with him for months, sharing late-night strategies and inside jokes. He was a good player, quiet and focused, but his dry humor and occasional insightful comments had made you curious about the person behind the screen.

The bell above the door chimed, and you looked up. Kenma stood there, his usual stoic expression softened by a slight smile. He was even taller than you’d imagined, and his hair, a shade darker than in his profile picture, fell over his forehead.

“Y/N?” he asked, his voice a low rumble.

“Kenma!” you exclaimed, a little louder than you intended. He chuckled, a sound that was both unexpected and endearing.

You found a table in the corner, away from the noise. The conversation flowed easily, just like it did online. You talked about your favorite games, your favorite strategies, your favorite everything. Kenma, you discovered, was even more interesting in person. His quiet demeanor was a facade, hiding a sharp wit and a surprisingly insightful mind.

As the evening wore on, the cafe emptied, leaving you two alone in the soft glow of the fairy lights.  The air felt charged with something unspoken, a connection that went beyond shared interests.

Kenma leaned forward, his eyes meeting yours. “You know, Y/N,” he said, his voice a low murmur, “I think I’d like to play another game with you… but this time, not online.”

A warmth spread through you. “What kind of game?” you asked, a playful smile tugging at your lips.

He leaned closer, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. “The kind where we see how well we can work together, how well we can… understand each other.”

His gaze lingered on your lips, and you felt a shiver run down your spine.

“I think I’d like to play that game,” you whispered, your heart pounding in your chest.

And as his lips met yours, you knew this was more than just a game. It was the start of something real, something exciting, something that promised to be more than just a shared love for video games.
