The cab pulls up to the nearest Walgreens and I quickly pay for the fare, grab my things and bee line it for the automatic doors without even thanking the man for the ride. I scramble to the aisle with condoms, plan b, lube, and...pregnancies tests. The denial in me wants to just grab the plan b because I'm just stressed and my period is just crazy late but the planner in me NEEDS to know if I'm pregnant...and if I am...it's Dean's baby.
I snatch two pregnancy tests, one that is the classic two lines and the other that is digital and clearly states if you're pregnant or not. I make a made dash for checkout hoping no one sees me because I am in fact on the side of town where I can be recognized. I pay for the tests and bolt to the bathroom before anyone could see me. I shakily crack the tests open... but I don't have to pee... fuck. I shimmy my body and readjust in the toilet to try to muster up anything but I can't.

I shove the tests into my purse and waltz back out of the bathroom like a woman on a mission and find my way over to the drink area and pick out a huge Dasani water bottle. I go back to the checkout and the cashier is giving me a funny look. I don't acknowledge the look and I snatch the receipt and the drink and run back into the same stall I was in before. I crack open the water bottle and begin to chug like my life depends on it. My legs are shaking and my stomach is in knots. My phone begins to ring and I look down to see that its Tyler. I click it to voicemail. He calls again. I click it to voicemail again.

Once again my phone rings and I pick it up and scream into the phone,"I told you to leave me the hell alone!" I cry into the phone letting out loud sobs.

"Audrey? Audrey...what's wrong?" a soft sweet voice asks.

Its Lyla. I pull the phone from my face and check the caller ID and it's her. I fall apart instantly melting into the phone so much so that I begin to make her panic like someone had died. I could barely make a coherent sentance and all she could hear is my loud sobs echoing in the bathroom.

"Calm down Audj, calm down. Whats going on?" She panics and I can hear her rustling around.

"Lyla... I'm late...like really late. I'm late, Lyla. I'm late!" I whimper and shout into the phone while staring at a blank pregnancy test that I have yet to pee on.

I take another big gulp of water and swallow it trying hard to fill my bladder fast.

"What...you're late...for what? You sound like the damn white rabbit from Alice in Wonder- ohhhh. Audj, do you think you're pregnant?"She asks like a mama bear continue to rustle around likely scrambling to get her stuff together to come find me.

"Remember that guy I met after Tyler dumped me...Dean? Ya...I think I missed a few pills those few days because I was so busy with the shop and then I definitely forgot my pill that morning... " I admit throwing my face into my palm.
"And you're sure it's not Tyler's baby? I mean the lapse between Dean and Tyler was...well it was short." She asks trying not to chuckle.
"No...We were both so stressed out that last month that I don't recall ever having sex. I mean I left him with a brand new condom box in the drawer." I explain taping the unused pregnancy test on my knee nervously.
"Oh...okay I see... I mean at least it's not your exes baby right...Where are you right now?" Lyla asks.
"I'm at the Walgreens by the bakery in the bathroom trying to muster up the courage and the pee to take a pregnancy test." I cry into the phone realizing how pathetic I sound.

"Nope...no. Don't take that test. You're not finding out you're pregnant in a public restroom of a fucking Walgreens all alone. I'm coming to get you. Don't take that fucking test until you are with me at my apartment. No one deserves to take a pregnancy test all alone." She demands and I can already hear her leaving the house.

"OK..." I whisper cry into the phone rubbing my scalp with my free hand.

"Im only 5 minutes away okay...I'll grab a cab and be right there." She reassures then hangs up.
