The rhythmic clicks of Seol Min's heels echoed through the grand hallway, each step marking her reluctant approach. She could feel the weight of her decision pressing down on her with every stride, yet she forced herself forward. Today, she would face him-the infamous CEO, Park Jimin.
The day had been gloomy, fitting for the storm brewing inside her. She was prepared to be professional, to handle whatever awaited her in his office. She'd heard the rumors about him-stories of his brutal business acumen and his cold heart. Some said he was a devil disguised in a tailored suit, a man who could make or break anyone with a flick of his pen.
But what haunted her most was not his reputation; it was the memory of the man she used to know.
It had been years since their paths last crossed, and Seol Min still remembered the warmth in his smile, the light in his eyes. But those memories had faded, replaced by whispers of a darker, colder Jimin who'd shed his innocence and trust in exchange for power and control.
She reached the door, took a deep breath, and steadied herself. This was not the Jimin she remembered. This was Park Jimin, CEO of K-Group, the man who could ruin anyone who dared to get in his way. A man who trusted no one.
As she opened the door, the first thing she noticed was the cool, modern décor-minimalist, almost sterile. It reflected the very soul of the man seated at the grand desk across the room, his back turned to her as he looked out at the sprawling cityscape through floor-to-ceiling windows.
"Seol Min," his voice drifted toward her, calm yet edged with something dangerous. He didn't even turn around.
Her heart beat faster. He hadn't even seen her yet, yet he sounded so certain, so sure that she'd be there.
"Mr. Park," she replied, her voice steady.
He finally turned, and when their eyes met, it was like a punch to her gut. The warmth she remembered was gone, replaced by an icy gaze that seemed to look right through her. He wore an expression she couldn't quite read-was it contempt? Disinterest?
"You're here earlier than expected," he said, his lips curling into a faint smirk. "Impressive."
"I like to be punctual," she replied, holding his gaze, determined not to let him intimidate her. "I'm here because you requested my expertise on the company's marketing campaign."
Jimin tilted his head, eyes narrowing. "I don't need your expertise, Seol Min. I need your obedience."
The words hit her like a slap, but she stood her ground, refusing to let his cold demeanor shake her. "This is a business arrangement, Mr. Park. And I expect it to be conducted as such."
His expression flickered for a moment, almost as if he was amused by her response. He slowly approached, stopping only inches away, his gaze piercing into hers.
"You think you know me," he murmured. "You think you know the kind of man I am."
"I don't pretend to know you, Jimin," she replied, her voice a whisper now. "But I know the man you once were."
His eyes darkened, and the cold mask slipped just enough for her to glimpse something raw, something broken. He stepped back, shaking his head, his expression hardening again.
"That man is dead," he said, his voice laced with bitterness. "And you'd do well to forget him."
Seol Min swallowed, feeling a pang of sadness. He wasn't the boy she remembered, and maybe he never would be. But something inside her refused to let go.
"I don't believe that," she said quietly, a spark of defiance in her voice.
Jimin's face twisted into a scowl, but before he could respond, the intercom buzzed, breaking the tension.
"Sir, you have a meeting in five minutes," his secretary's voice announced.
"Cancel it," he replied sharply, his gaze never leaving Seol Min.
A hint of surprise crossed her face. "You don't need to-"
"I said it's canceled," he interrupted, his tone leaving no room for argument.
She felt a strange mixture of dread and curiosity as he turned, gesturing for her to follow him to the sitting area by the window. She took a seat on the plush, leather couch, watching as he settled across from her, his expression unreadable.
"So tell me, Seol Min," he began, his tone deceptively casual, "what do you want from me?"
His question caught her off guard, but she quickly composed herself. "I want this job, and I want to prove myself."
He raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Is that all?"
She frowned, sensing there was more to his question. "Yes. That's all."
He leaned back, studying her with an intensity that made her uncomfortable. "Let me be clear," he said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I don't care why you're here. I don't care if you're looking for redemption, closure, or whatever sentiment brought you back. But understand this-if you cross me, there will be consequences."
Seol Min met his gaze, her heart racing. "I'm not here to cross you, Jimin. I'm here to work, nothing more."
A bitter smile touched his lips. "Then let's get one thing straight." He leaned forward, his gaze cold and unyielding. "You belong to me until I decide otherwise."
Her chest tightened, a mixture of anger and fear flooding her. But she refused to back down. "This isn't a game, Jimin."
"Oh, but it is," he whispered, his eyes gleaming with a twisted satisfaction. "And I intend to win."
As Seol Min left his office that evening, her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. She had expected the coldness, the bitterness. But she hadn't anticipated the depth of his anger or the shadows lurking in his gaze. Whatever pain he had endured in the past had left him broken, twisted into a man who didn't trust, didn't feel.
But she couldn't walk away. Not yet. There was something about the way he looked at her, a flicker of the boy he used to be, trapped beneath layers of bitterness and scars.
Perhaps she was a fool to hope, to believe that he could be saved. But something deep inside her told her she had to try.
