Jimin had spent countless nights haunted by memories, by questions he couldn’t answer, and by the betrayal that had twisted his heart into something unrecognizable. But tonight, as he prepared to confront Hyejin, he was determined to find closure. With Seol Min's silent strength by his side, he felt something unfamiliar: a sliver of hope.
The message Hyejin had sent—Tonight—rang in his mind as he walked through his penthouse door, a sense of dread weighing heavily on him. He didn’t know what to expect, but he knew that whatever happened tonight, he would no longer let his past define him.
Later That Night at the Penthouse
The clock had just struck midnight when the doorbell rang. Jimin took a deep breath and opened the door to see Hyejin standing there, a smirk on her face as she stepped inside. Her eyes darted around, taking in the surroundings as if she owned the space.
“Didn’t expect you to agree to see me, Jimin,” she said, her voice laced with confidence. “Maybe part of you still cares.”
His face remained cold, unreadable. “Say what you came to say, Hyejin.”
She looked him over, her smirk fading into something harder, more calculating. “Fine. Let’s get to the point.”
She moved closer, her gaze piercing. “You know we belong together, Jimin. Whatever anger you hold, you know that you and I are the same. You can’t escape that, and neither can I.”
He clenched his jaw, her words cutting through him like knives. “You left, Hyejin. You abandoned me when I needed you the most. Now you’re back, and you think you can just… fix it?”
Her eyes softened, and for the first time, he saw a hint of vulnerability. “I made a mistake. But I came back because I realized that you’re the only one who understands me.”
Jimin looked away, anger and confusion battling within him. But the memory of Seol Min's steady gaze, her unwavering support, grounded him.
“Maybe I once thought you were the only one who understood me, Hyejin,” he said quietly. “But I’ve realized that’s just the story I let myself believe. The truth is, you only ever cared about power and control. I was a piece in your game.”
Hyejin’s expression twisted, the gentleness gone as quickly as it had appeared. “You think she can save you? That Seol Min can just waltz into your life and fix what’s broken? She doesn’t know the real you, Jimin.”
Jimin met her gaze, his voice unwavering. “Seol Min may not know everything, but she cares in a way you never did. And I care about her. More than I ever cared about you.”
A shadow crossed Hyejin’s face, and she took a step closer, her voice low and dangerous. “You’ll regret this, Jimin. I could ruin everything for you. Your reputation, your company… even Seol Min.”
He straightened, his eyes cold and unyielding. “You’re welcome to try. But don’t think for a second that I’ll let you hurt her.”
Just then, the sound of footsteps broke the tense silence. Jimin turned, surprised to see Seol Min standing in the doorway, her expression both fearful and determined.
“Seol Min…” he murmured, a hint of panic in his voice. He hadn’t wanted her to witness this confrontation, to see the depths of his past.
But Seol Min looked only at him, her gaze steady. “I’m here, Jimin. Whatever you need to face, we face it together.”
Hyejin let out a harsh laugh. “How sweet. But let’s see how strong your love is when the truth comes out.”
She took a deep breath, as if preparing herself. “You think I left you, Jimin, out of cruelty? No. I left because I knew you were damaged beyond repair. I couldn’t bear to watch you destroy yourself.”
Jimin's jaw tightened, the familiar pang of anger and betrayal resurfacing. “You didn’t leave to protect me, Hyejin. You left to protect yourself.”
Hyejin’s face twisted in frustration, and for a moment, she seemed almost desperate. “You don’t understand, Jimin. I’ve always loved you. But I couldn’t watch you fall apart. So I chose myself.”
Seol Min watched the exchange, her heart aching at the pain Jimin had endured, the struggles he had never shared. She stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on his arm.
“It’s okay, Jimin,” she whispered. “You don’t have to fight this alone.”
Hyejin scoffed, her face a mask of disdain. “You think she can save you, Jimin? That she can accept all of you?”
Jimin looked at Seol Min, her face filled with compassion and strength, and felt his heart calm. For the first time in years, he believed that he didn’t have to face his demons alone.
He turned back to Hyejin, his voice steady and resolved. “I don’t need saving. And I certainly don’t need you to tell me who I am.”
Hyejin’s eyes narrowed, and she seemed to realize that her hold over him was slipping. With a cold smile, she looked at them both, her voice dripping with malice. “Fine. If you’re choosing her over me, then I have no reason to keep quiet. But remember this, Jimin: you’re just as broken as you were when I left. And no one—not even her—can fix that.”
With those final words, Hyejin turned and walked out of the penthouse, leaving a heavy silence in her wake.
After Hyejin Left
Seol Min turned to Jimin, her eyes filled with sadness and understanding. She gently took his hand, pulling him to the couch, where they sat together in silence for a moment.
“I’m sorry you had to see that,” he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.
She shook her head, squeezing his hand. “You don’t have to apologize, Jimin. I’m glad I was here, and I’m glad you trusted me enough to let me see this side of you.”
He looked at her, his gaze softening. “A part of me was terrified that if you saw… all of this, you would leave.”
Seol Min’s eyes glistened with tears as she placed her other hand over his. “I’m not going anywhere, Jimin. You don’t have to carry this alone anymore.”
For the first time, he felt the weight of his past begin to lift, replaced by something warm, something real. He knew he still had a long way to go, but with Seol Min by his side, he finally believed he could face whatever came next.
As they sat there together, the scars of his past no longer felt like chains but reminders of the battles he had survived. And for the first time, he allowed himself to hope—for a future not defined by pain, but by the possibility of love and healing.
