The sun dipped low over the city, casting a warm, fading light on the rooftop that had once been their secret refuge. Andrea Ross sat alone, legs dangling over the edge, as memories of Jacob swept over her. This was their spot, a hidden world away from the troubles below. She could almost hear his voice beside her, cheering her on, laughing, dreaming aloud about the future.

"Someday, we'll be famous," he would say, his voice filled with the boldness she often envied. Jacob had been more than her best friend—he had been her anchor, the one who believed in their dreams of Hollywood, even when Andrea felt they were just out of reach.

Jacob was a year older than her but had to redo a year in school, so they found themselves in the same grade. She would practically have to drag him to school every day, always reminding him of their dreams and how important it was to keep pushing forward. He had been her constant companion, and she tried to pull him out of the darkness he faced at home. Raised in a chaotic, abusive household, he had often confided in her about the struggles he faced, the way his dreams felt like distant lights he could never quite touch. He believed so deeply in his dreams because he saw them as his only way out. Andrea had tried to be there for him, to give him the hope and reassurance he needed, but the reality of his pain was more than she could ever mend.

That summer, Jacob had pulled strings, somehow managing to get her a role in a One Direction music video. It was a surreal, incredible moment—something neither of them could have ever expected. Andrea had been nervous, giddy, and hopeful that maybe this was the first step toward the life they had always talked about. She could still remember how Jacob had celebrated with her, his pride shining bright as if he had finally managed to create a piece of happiness in his turbulent world.

But just months after that dream came true, Jacob was gone. The darkness he had fought for so long finally overtook him, leaving Andrea devastated and reeling with grief. At times she was mad at him for giving up and leaving her. She had spent weeks, even months, drowning in sorrow and confusion, wondering how someone so full of life could be so broken inside. It was as if a piece of her heart had been ripped away, leaving her to navigate the world without the person who had always been her biggest supporter.

After Jacob's death, Andrea never showed up to school again, effectively becoming a high school dropout during what was supposed to be her final year. She felt lost without him, adrift in a world that seemed to keep moving forward while she was stuck in place. Now, with no high school diploma, she felt the weight of the world on her shoulders; she had no choice but to make it as an actress, to pursue the dreams they had once shared.

In the months after his passing, Andrea found herself lost, unsure how to continue the life they had dreamed of. Then, almost by chance, she landed a small role in a Disney show called, A Small World. It was her first acting job, and while it wasn't much, it felt like a whisper of encouragement, a push forward from the universe—or maybe even from Jacob. She poured herself into the role, finding solace in the world of acting, allowing herself to escape, if only for a moment, from the weight of her grief.

Sitting on the rooftop now, Andrea looked out over the city lights, feeling both the ache of loss and the flicker of hope that had kept her moving forward. She missed Jacob deeply, but she could feel his spirit beside her, urging her to chase the dreams they had once crafted together.

"Maybe someday, I'll make it big," she whispered, a quiet promise to herself and to him. The road was uncertain, and fame felt as far away as it always had. But she was still here, still fighting, and she knew she owed it to Jacob to keep going, to chase the life they had dreamed of.
