The next morning, the cabin was eerily quiet. Scarlet was still asleep beside me, her chest rising and falling peacefully. I sat up, feeling like I hadn't slept at all. My body ached, and my mind was racing. The nightmares were getting worse.
I got out of bed, careful not to wake Scarlet, and went to the window again. The snow was falling harder now, the wind howling like a wild beast. I couldn't shake the feeling that he was still out there, watching me. I didn't know if it was paranoia or if the nightmares had bled into reality, but I couldn't trust my senses anymore.
Scarlet stirred behind me, waking up. "Babe," she murmured, "are you okay?"
I turned to face her, forcing a smile. "Yeah... just another nightmare. Same guy, same creepy smile."
She sat up, her hair a mess but her eyes full of concern. "Do you want to talk about it?"
I sighed, rubbing my temples. "It's always the same. He keeps saying he wants my soul, and it feels... real. Like he's not just some nightmare anymore. He's... here."
Scarlet moved closer, wrapping her arms around me. "We're gonna figure this out, okay? Whatever's going on, we'll get through it. Together."
I nodded, grateful for her support, but deep down I knew this was far from over. That man, whoever—or whatever—he was, wasn't going to stop. He wanted something from me, and he wasn't going to rest until he got it.
The rest of the day passed in a tense silence. Every little sound made me jump. Every shadow made me flinch. I couldn't escape the feeling that he was lurking, just out of sight, waiting to strike again. I tried to distract myself by gathering more wood for the fire, but even that didn't help.
That night, as Scarlet and I sat together by the fire, I could feel his presence. He was close, I could sense it. The temperature in the cabin dropped suddenly, and I could see my breath misting in the air. I looked at Scarlet, her eyes widening with fear as she felt it too.
