Law had barely finished outlining his plan, and yet I couldn’t piece together what he was really after. Here we were, perched on the frozen peak of a mountain covered in glistening snow, the icy wind biting at my skin. I pulled my hood over my head, watching white puffs of breath escape into the frigid air. The rock beneath me numbed even through layers of clothing—I was sure if we lingered much longer, I'd end up frozen in place. My impatience simmered, and just as I was about to pester Law with another question, my words died in my throat. I suddenly had my answer.

One of the infamous "Mountain Killers"—one of Caesar's precious mercenaries—was clambering up the slope toward us. Caesar had praised these agents for their flawless, brutal efficiency, but this was my first time seeing one in person. What a bizarre sight: he dragged up the mountain a bulky, metallic figure… a cyborg? My eyes widened, curiosity flaring.

"Oh, you're that freeloader Trafalgar Law, aren't you?" the Mountain Killer sneered, his gaze as cold as the frozen air.

I drifted closer, practically hovering as I studied the mercenary, lost in my own scientific intrigue. I’d heard tales of these mercenaries from Caesar, yet nothing in my time as his apprentice prepared me for this. My mind buzzed with questions, each detail piquing my curiosity. The danger melted away, replaced by sheer fascination.

The Mountain Killer, oblivious to my silent study, hissed at Law, "I'm glad you're here. Straw Hat Luffy was chasing me."

"Room." Law's voice cut through the air, calm yet razor-sharp, and my attention snapped to him. I watched in fascination as he raised his sword, activating his Op-Op powers. Rumor had it that this power could even grant eternal life—if the user paid with their own. The scientist in me was spellbound, recording every detail as he performed his technique.

Law's sword flashed in the cold mountain light, and with one clean strike, the Mountain Killer split in two. The cyborg emitted a high-pitched, strangely… feminine scream?

"You bastard! What the hell do you think you're doing?!" The mercenary’s furious growl barely masked his pain as Law unleashed his "Counter Shock" attack, sending a crackling current of electricity through the severed body.

I marveled at the Op-Op Fruit. How had Law acquired it? The government was rumored to have lost track of it after pirates seized it. And here it was, wielded by a pirate surgeon. My mind brimmed with questions, but I had no chance to ask them.

"Thank you," the cyborg said, with a girlish edge to its voice. "Now give me my body back!" I raised an eyebrow—had Law swapped their hearts? One of the infamous abilities of the Op-Op Fruit, but I couldn’t believe I was witnessing it firsthand.

"Nami!" came another voice from below. I turned to see none other than the infamous Straw Hat Captain, Monkey D. Luffy, scrambling up the mountain.

"Torao, did you save Nami?" Luffy beamed at Law, seemingly oblivious to the tension in the air. I stifled a laugh at the nickname.

Ignoring Luffy, Law walked toward the peak, his gaze far-off. "Mugiwara-ya, I wanted to discuss something with you."

Meanwhile, Luffy was busy freeing Nami from her bindings, their chaotic energy filling the frigid air with warmth. But I tuned them out, my focus on the Mountain Killer as I cataloged every detail of his physique and build—analyzing his fur, his animalistic features. He resembled a Mink, perhaps?

"I think you arrived here by accident," Law murmured to Luffy, as his words grew heavier. "But there’s something dangerous on this island—something that could wreak havoc in the New World."

Law outlined the brutal realities of survival under the Emperors, the alliances formed for mere survival. I felt an inkling of where he was headed and eavesdropped shamelessly, my notes forgotten. His words hung in the air, carrying a weight that seemed to chill the atmosphere even more.

Law’s proposal stunned me—an alliance to take down an Emperor. And not just any Emperor—Kaido. Luffy accepted without hesitation. Was he really that fearless? I watched as Law continued, his tone clipped and precise. Luffy’s naivete astounded me, yet somehow, it seemed to fit.

When Luffy finally noticed me, he looked as though he’d just realized I existed. “Hey, who are you?” His voice boomed through the air, jarringly cheerful.

I met his gaze with a blank stare, my focus still half-absorbed in studying the Mountain Killer’s body. "Lily," I replied curtly, my tone indifferent, before I returned to my notes. I’d long mastered ignoring distractions from my work, a skill perfected under Vegapunk.

Luffy shrugged and turned back to Nami, who was loudly demanding her body back, her urgency a mix of frustration and desperation.

As we made our way to rejoin the crew, I quickened my stride, moving closer to Law, my curiosity unquenchable.

“Trafalgar,” I began, cautious but resolute. “You’re planning to ally with them all the way to taking down a Yonko?” I shot a glance back at the crew. Luffy was now doing something absurd again, and Nami’s response was both scolding and endearing.

“Are you sure about this alliance?” I continued, trying to keep my tone neutral. “They’re strong, but they don’t seem to grasp what they’re up against.” I tried to keep my concern from showing. “Not that it matters to me,” I added hastily. “I’ll only stick around until Punk Hazard. After that, I’m heading to the Revolutionaries.”

Yet even as I said it, a small part of me wondered—almost hoped—that he might try to sway me.

Law glanced at me, his gaze sharp and calculating, as though he saw through me effortlessly. “I know they look unreliable,” he said quietly, his voice smooth. “But they’re capable. I’d never admit it in front of them, though, Lily-ya.” He paused, letting the words sink in, then smirked, that familiar cocky curve to his lips that always seemed to test my patience. “But you’re only tagging along for this mission, right? So why so worried?”

He leaned in closer, his voice dipping into a murmur that sent a shiver down my spine. His eyes sparkled with challenge, as though daring me to admit what I wouldn’t say aloud. My pulse quickened, and I held his gaze, fighting to keep my composure as his proximity sparked both unease and intrigue.

“I—I said it doesn’t matter,” I muttered, looking away to hide the slight tremor in my voice. The intensity in his gaze was overwhelming, making my heart race far more than I’d like to admit. “It’s your problem. You’re the one who’ll be dealing with them.”

I fixed my gaze on the snowy horizon, grounding myself with the biting cold and the clouds of my breath. Yet even as I steadied myself, I felt his presence near me—intense, magnetic, and maddening. I knew he was smirking still, reveling in the small victory of getting under my skin.

But I stayed silent, my mind focused outward, while inside, a quiet thrill lingered, mingling with the frustration he always seemed to inspire in me.
