"God damn it, Lawrence. I will not say it again: I am not working for Jigsaw!"
It had been over half a year since him and Lawrence met in that bathroom, that God awful bathroom. Time seemed to have sped up since that day, everything going by in an almost nauseating blur.
Sometimes, Adam was glad that he met the doctor, happy to finally be out of his shit apartment where he faced the constant threat of going homeless every day. He was happy that he finally had someone who genuinely cared for his wellbeing, practically being joined at the hip to him ever since they left that hospital.
But he was even more happy that Lawrence kept his promise.
Several promises had been made to him in the past, and every time those promises were bent or broken. So as he watched Lawrence drag his limp and numb body out of the bathroom, Adam had just decided to go ahead and give up on the hope of the man ever coming back for him.
Even if he refused to believe it, he never truly gave up that small sliver of hope that Lawrence would come back for him.
True, it did take a couple of days for the police and EMTs to actually arrive, sweeping the building from top to bottom before they stumbled upon the bathroom. By that point, Adam was so malnourished, dehydrated, and delirious from numbing pain and blood loss that he thought they were just a figment of his imagination, his brain conjuring them up out of thin air to give him false hope.
Then he woke up in the hospital, machines beeping all around him and his body in pain.
And right beside him, the man that he wanted to see most, and also the man that he wanted to see the least.
He remembered watching the doctor sitting beside his bed out of the corner of his eye, not wanting to show that he was conscious yet. The blonde looked so...guilt ridden. The bags under his eyes were deeper and darker than before, and his hands twitched nervously as he cracked his knuckles every few minutes. His leg bounced constantly, and the worried expression on his face never changed.
After that, that's when things started to get put on 2x speed.
Before he knew it, a couple weeks later, Adam had moved in with Lawrence not long after his and Alison's divorce. He remembered how messy it was, especially considering that their daughter, Diana, was involved.
The custody battle for her was even messier.
Then, Lawrence asked him out.
It was sudden, something Adam definitely hadn't expected, considering how Lawrence had called him a "bottom-feeder" among other horrible names in that bathroom not even a few months ago.
But he couldn't say no. He also wouldn't admit it since he was such a stubborn person, but Adam had taken a strong liking towards the blonde. It made him question many things about himself that he thought he already knew, sexuality included.
While he did enjoy being with him, Adam also hated it. The two got into frequent fights, usually over something petty, like Adam smoking in Lawrence's car or Lawrence coming home late after a long shift. Adam knew of the doctors history of being unfaithful, so who was he to be not suspicious? But then there were petty arguments that quickly escalated into heated fights, leaving one of the two to sleep on the couch or stay the night somewhere else. Adam remembered the countless times where he would storm out of their house and go and sleep in his car. Often he drove away from the house and would sleep in it somewhere else, usually only when Lawrence really pissed him off.
Like the one time he told Adam that he should've never came back for him.
That he should've died there.
