Addilyn haphazardly tossed her few work belongings into the front passanger seat and sat down in the drivers seat, slamming the door behind her.

She hunched over and shoved her face into her hands, biting back tears.

This was it. It was over.

The library was officially closed.

It had been inevitable since the moment she started working there a few years before. She knew that the decades old library couldn't keep up with its newer and shinier competitors. Within the last few months, two new libraries had opened up almost smack dab in the middle of town, and all the money that the city had previously funded to her library went straight over to the new ones almost immediately.

Her job was doomed to close any day after that. She was surprised it hadn't happened before today.

Despite this, Addilyn still had clung onto that small bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't happen.

But it did, and now Addilyn didn't know what to do or where to go.

Even if she didn't particularly love her job, she still liked having a reason to get out of her apartment every day. She enjoyed sorting through the returned books and then reshelving them back to where they belonged. She enjoyed helping her coworkers plan and set up months activities that the library hosted, usually for little kids in the youth wing of the building.

Hell, she even enjoyed just running errands for her boss all day, even if it was for a simple cup of coffee at 7:30 in the morning.

"Fuck..."

Addilyns chest ached as she looked at the slowly deteriorating building, watching as more of her now-ex coworkers exited from the front, heads hung low and shoulders slack, carrying whatever they kept in their offices in their arms.

She sighed.

There was no time to keep thinking about the job she had just lost. There was no point in dwelling over it at this point. She had to start thinking of what her next job would be, or else she would be in a worse position than she already was in.

No way in hell was she going to lose her apartment if she could help it.

Digging her key out from her jeans pocket, Addilyn stuck it in the ignition and turned it, the ball of nerves in her stomach growing as the engine roared to life.

She casted one last look at the library before pulling out of the parking lot and onto the street.

Addilyn had no idea where she was going to start first. Maybe she could go home and look for any job listings within her area online. That would probably be the smartest move.

She flicked her blinker on, getting into the right turn lane, and waited for the light to turn green.

Her fingers tapped out an indistinguishable rhythm on the steering wheel, starting to get impatient.

"Come'on..." Addilyn grumbled, eyes darting from the unchanging red light to the car in front of her. She let one hand fall from the steering wheel as she slumped back into her seat, her mind beginning to wander as she lazily watched the cars on the other side of the intersection zoom past her.

Then it hit her, her eyes widening.

The coffee shop right down the street from her apartment had had this 'hiring now' sign plastered to the front door for weeks now, and it never seemed like anyone bothered applying for it.

The light turned green, and she straightened up again, heading towards the coffee shop.

Hopefully, they were still hiring.
