Golden sunlight streamed into my room through the gaps in the curtains as I lay on my stomach in bed, immersed in poetry books.I've had a passion for poetry since I was a child.
My dad adored poetry, and whenever he composed a new piece, he would always share it with me first. Poetry brings me a sense of calm and the memories of my dad. Whenever I engage with it, I feel his presence beside me.
I wish you were here with me dad.
"My heart tells me this is the best and greatest feeling I have ever had. But my mind knows the difference between wanting what you can't have and wanting what you shouldn't want. And I shouldn't want you." ~ Cassandra Clare
I gazed at the quote for a moment, coming to the realization that I shouldn't desire Blaze. He isn't mine-he belongs to my mother. Pursuing him would be a betrayal to her.
The way he looks at me, touches me, and kisses me drives me wild and feels incredible, but it can't continue. I need to accept that sometimes we must let go of things, no matter how much we crave them.
Knock knock*
A knock at the door jolted me back to reality, and I quickly sat up, straightening my clothes.
"Come in," I called out, waiting for whoever it was to enter. The door opened, revealing two tall men who surprised me.
"W-who are you?" I whispered, my heart racing as the strangers stood just inches away, smiling gently.
I couldn't deny that both were quite handsome, dressed in dark suits and sunglasses. One had dreadlocks styled in a half bun, while the other had golden blonde hair slicked back.
"I'm Carter," the man with dreadlocks said as he removed his sunglasses. I swallowed hard and managed a forced smile, nodding.
"And I'm Dimitri," the man with the brushed-back hair said as he pushed his sunglasses up onto his head. Fear washed over me since I had no idea who they were or why they were in my room.
What if they were here to kidnap me?
Oh no.
"Don't worry, we're not here to kidnap you or cause you any harm," Dimitri chuckled. "We just came to meet you."
"We're Blaze's best friends," Carter added with a reassuring smile, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me. Thank goodness. But how did they know I was scared they'd abduct me?
"I'm Maya," I said, offering them a smile. "Nice to meet you both."
"The pleasure is all ours, Ms," Carter replied.
"No, please just call me Maya," I quickly corrected, prompting them to exchange glances before nodding in agreement.
"Actually, Blaze wants to see you in his office right now, so we came to escort you and introduce ourselves," Dimitri said.
