The next morning, Kal was awakened by the sound of heavy footsteps approaching his chamber. He sat up, his muscles tense, as the door creaked open to reveal two Amazons standing there. Their expressions were stern, their eyes hard as they motioned for him to follow. Kal felt a chill run through him, the realization sinking in—today, he would face his punishment.

The walk through the palace was silent, the only sound the echo of their footsteps against the stone floor. Kal kept his head down, his heart pounding with each step. The hallway seemed to stretch endlessly, the weight of what was about to happen pressing down on him like a physical force. He knew that whatever judgment awaited him, it would not be kind. He had broken the laws of Themyscira, and the Amazons did not take such betrayals lightly.

They led him to a large courtyard, the morning sun casting long shadows across the stone. The courtyard was filled with Amazons, their eyes fixed on him as he was brought to the center. Kal could feel their stares, the weight of their judgment. He felt exposed, vulnerable, like an animal being led to slaughter. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself, to prepare for whatever was to come.

Queen Hippolyta stood at the far end of the courtyard, her presence commanding as she watched Kal approach. Beside her stood Diana, her expression unreadable, her eyes fixed on him with an intensity that made his chest tighten. Kal stopped before them, bowing his head in deference, waiting for the queen to speak.

"Kal-El," Hippolyta began, her voice echoing through the courtyard, carrying an authority that demanded attention. "You have broken the sacred laws of Themyscira. You have attempted to flee, betraying the trust that was given to you."

Kal kept his head bowed, his heart heavy. He had no defense, no argument to offer. He had known the risks, and he had failed. Now, he would face the consequences.

Hippolyta's gaze was cold as she continued, her eyes never leaving him. "The laws of Themyscira are not to be taken lightly. Your actions have consequences—not only for you, but for all of us. You were brought here as a servant, and yet you have shown defiance, a desire to break free of the role you were given. Such defiance cannot go unpunished."

Kal swallowed hard, his hands clenching at his sides. He could feel the eyes of the Amazons on him, could hear the murmurs that rippled through the crowd. He had known this would be the outcome, but hearing the words from the queen herself made it all the more real, the weight of his situation pressing down on him like a crushing force.

Hippolyta raised her hand, and the courtyard fell silent. "Your punishment must serve as a reminder to all that the laws of Themyscira are absolute," she said, her voice ringing with finality. "For your attempt to escape, you will be subjected to a trial of endurance—a test that will determine whether you are worthy to remain among us. If you survive, you may yet earn a place here. If you fail, you will be cast out, left to face the consequences of your defiance."

Kal's breath caught in his throat, his eyes widening slightly. A trial of endurance. He had heard of such trials before—tests designed to push the limits of one's strength and willpower, to prove one's loyalty and worth. It was not a punishment given lightly, and it was rarely survived. The thought of what lay ahead filled him with a deep sense of dread, but there was also a flicker of something else—determination. This was his chance, perhaps his only chance, to prove himself, to show that he was more than just a servant.

Hippolyta paused, her gaze hardening once more. "In addition to the trial, there is another matter that must be addressed. Some among us have suggested that you be given a different role—a role that would serve Themyscira in ensuring the continuation of our people. They believe you should become the father of the next generation of Amazons, that your strength should be put to use in a way that benefits us all."
