A dark-skinned young man was still awake, the light ruled the sweet kingdom and the sweet song of the birds was already present.

That dark-colored hedgehog was rubbing his eyelids, trying to get used to the strong rays of sunlight that entered through his window. He lived in a small house located in that kingdom, where every morning the citizens worked as usual, pulling carts, horses, small food stalls, among others.

He went downstairs, still sleepy, and sat at that small table. He lived alone, since his parents had died when he was still a teenager, so he had to live on his own. Remembering it didn't affect him as much anymore, since he believed he had already gotten over it.

He poured himself a glass of water and drank some to clear his throat, and had some bread and milk for a well-deserved breakfast, enjoying his food, until the sound of the interrupted his savouring of that feast, moving his ears in alarm.

He stood up very heavily and walked to the door to find out who it was, unlocked the door and opened it. It was no one but the postman who had come to deliver his mail.

-I have a delivery for... (I turn to read the address on the letter)..Mr. Shadow-.

The young postman extended his hand to deliver that letter, and he gladly took it. -Many

Thank you... Who sent it? - I think it comes from the castle, so I guess it has to be of utmost importance. - He didn't say anything else and the delivery man turned around and went on his way, leaving the hedgehog in doubt. Until he remembered.

A few months ago he had applied to be a knight, since they needed new recruits, his dream had always been that since he was an infant. He was sweating cold, because he still didn't know what that letter said, that made him nervous. He carefully opened the envelope and began to read it, as he read the letter his eyes began to light up.

He was jumping for joy because he had been selected as a royal guard, and there was only a week left until he could stay at the castle, but... why? Knights are supposed to return home at night. He continued reading, intrigued, until there was a part that told him that he would not be just any guard, but the staff of a "prince"?

He was surprised, because with all his years in that kingdom he had never heard of a "prince"? But why now? He stopped thinking about it and took a breath, he needed to organize his thoughts.

One – he would be a royal guard, that was good. Two – he would live in a slightly more decent place. And three – here's the problem – he didn't know how to deal with princes, he usually imagined them to be arrogant, rude and proud, so he didn't like the idea at all

It had been 6 days since he received the news, our dark-skinned man was packing everything, clothes, some money, a few jewels belonging to his deceased parents. He loaded everything onto a cart that was pulled by a horse as black as the darkest night, with white spots as if they were stars. Without thinking twice, the black-skinned man got onto it, holding onto the reins to give the signal to the stallion to move forward.
