She whispered in a low voice,

“Humara baccha s-sab kuch sun raha hoga kya?”

I froze. I froze completely.

She sensed that I was about to withdraw myself out of her, and she locked my hips by wrapping her legs around my torso.

“Kya hua, Varun?”

I gulped, removing her hands from my hair and trying to withdraw myself out of her, but she didn't let me.

“Varun..”

I whispered, “H-hume... bahar aane dijiye....aapse.”

She shook her head, cupping my cheeks softly, “Nahin.”

“Malini...”

She cut me off by leaving me, completely.

I moved out of her, running my fingers in my hair.

She pulled the covers up and covered herself with it, turning away from me, and closing her eyes.

I sighed. “Malini..”

She didn't reply.

“Malini?”

She didn't reply again.

“Malini, kuch keh rahe hain hum!”

She turned around suddenly, sitting up on the bed and almost shouted,

“Aisa nahin hota, Varun ! Aapka jab Mann chahe aap humare andar aa jayein, jab Mann chahe hume yun thukra de. Jab Mann chahe, jo bhi Mann chahe woh baatein kar le humse, aur agar hum apne Mann ka kuch bhavnao me beh kar keh de toh aap khud ko humse alag kar le.”

I tried to reach for her hand, but she pushed my hand away,

“Aapko pata hain, Varun. Apni pehli shaadi mein hum yeh sab kuch seh chuke hain. Hume lagta tha mardon ko inn sab ki ijazat hain, unka Jo Mann kare, woh kare hum aurton ke saath. Itna....” tears rolled down her eyes, “Itna ijjat, itna samarpann Dene ke bad bhi badle mein Hume kya mila humari pehli shaadi se, dhokha?”

“Malin—”

She shook her head, “Khud ke izzat ke saath nahi khelenge hum ab, aur naa hi aapko khelne denge.”

I shifted closer to her, finally holding her hand, “Malini, humara woh matlab nahi t—”

She took her hand back. More tears rolled down her eyes.

“Hume...hume pata hai... Ki hume woh baat uss samay nahin kehni chahiye thi, par... Par humre muu se nikal gayi...Varun.. magar hum sach muchh, aapse vaada karte hain, hum kabhi bhi dobara aapse iss baare me zikr bhi nahin karenge, aapko pata bhi nahi lagega ki aapki biwi pet se bhi hain.”

“J-jaan,”

She shook her head, wiping off her tears, “Kabhi kabhi toh Hume lagta hain, Kash A-amrit ji aaj humare pati hote. Dhokha hi de rahe hote, magar humare paas koi toh hota jisey hum Maa banne ke baare me, apne bacche ke baare baatein kar sakte. Kyunki aap nahin jaante, Varun, ki yeh baccha hume kya mehsoos karata hain, aap nahin jaante iss duniya mein maa banne se jyada badi khushi ek aurat ke liye kabhi kuch hoti hi nahi, kisi ki biwi banna bhi nahin.”

“MALINI, ab jyada bol rahin hain aap,” I warned.

She turned around, laying down on bed.

I sat there. Not knowing what to do, what to say. The only WRONG thing going around in my mind was. Everything is happening because of that child who isn't even born yet.

And I know it was so wrong. So wrong.

Next morning, I left early for work. Because I genuinely wanted to ignore the REAL conversation.
