Enzo

It was fun to go out and fight with the Spanish boys. I hadn't fought in a long time, and it felt good. I thought Raphy was soft, but he wasn't. Cardo is a cool guy. It's nice that I made some friends here.

Pedro came to my room, and as soon as he saw the bruises on my body while I was changing clothes, he started asking a lot of questions. "How did you get those bruises?" he asked.

I quickly said, "We played rugby outside."

He raised an eyebrow. "Raphy said you guys played football."

"Raphy's an idiot," I replied. "He calls football rugby." I couldn't think of any better excuse at the time.

"It was fun, wasn't it, dude?" Cardo said, slinging an arm over my shoulder.

"Yeah. Who the hell were those guys?" I asked.

"Oh, they're just the sons of a businessman around here. But they're against us. Don't mind them," Cardo said, his breath reeking of alcohol.

It was dinner time, and all the adults sat around the huge table. We deliberately avoided the boring dinner scene, eating our food while sitting wherever we pleased. I chatted with the other cousins, but honestly, I was drunk and barely paying attention to what they were saying. I just nodded along, pretending I was following the conversation.

After eating, Cardo and I passed out on the couch. Neither of us woke up until the party was over.

"Hey, son, let's go home," Tio Pablo said, trying to rouse Cardo from his nap.

"I want to stay here with Enzo," Cardo mumbled sleepily.

"What? I can't stay home alone," Tio Pablo said with a smile.

"Ask one of your girlfriends to come over," Cardo replied. Tio Pablo's expression shifted, and I burst out laughing at Cardo's comment. Cardo joined in, laughing even harder.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Tio Pablo asked, his voice laced with concern.

"Okay, you both stay here then," Tio Javier interjected. It was clear Tio Pablo didn't want to leave without Cardo. He looked genuinely hurt by Cardo's remark but seemed resigned to staying.

"I'll sleep in Enzo's room," Cardo announced.

"There are plenty of rooms, though," Raphy said, plopping down on our couch.

"Why? Are you jealous?" Cardo asked, smirking at Raphy. He was definitely drunker than I was. "Alright then, we three will sleep in the same room. No need to be jealous."

"I don't think I'll be able to sleep next to two drunk guys," Raphy muttered.

"Oh... you have a fair point," Cardo said, dragging himself off the couch like it was the hardest task in the world.

"Let's go. I'm so sleepy," he added, stretching his arms high above his head.

But Cardo didn't fall asleep right away. He kept talking nonsense, rambling non-stop while lying next to me. Every now and then, he'd lean over and whisper in my ear like he was sharing some big secret. Spoiler: they weren't secrets.

"Oh, I had my phone on silent," he muttered, turning the sound back on one of his phones. That's when I noticed—he had two phones.

The moment the sound was on, his phone buzzed with a call. He picked it up immediately.
