Hope wakes up the next morning completely entangled with her best friend. The brunette is lightly snoring with her head resting on Hope's chest. She reflects on the previous nights events and can't help but be hopeful of the future as she begins to lightly run her fingers through Josie's hair.
"Mmm, g'morning Hope." Josie mumbles as she tightens her grip on the girl beneath her.
"Good morning Jo. How'd you sleep?"
"Better than usual. You're comfy."
Hope chuckles softly. "What do you want to do today?"
"Lay here and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist." Josie deadpans.
Hope laughs a little louder. "I'm sure we could make that happen, but we will eventually have to get up. You know Lizzie will be home before we know it and will demand our attention."
"Ugh, don't remind me. It was nice having you all to myself yesterday. It feels like we haven't had anytime to ourselves lately." Josie sighs. "Which reminds me, I have to break up with Landon today."
"What can I do to support you?" Hope says softly.
"You have already been supporting me, and thank you for listening to me last night. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. Seriously, I should have never been so scared to tell you. I know you will always be here for me no matter what. It was just overwhelming." Josie says as she lifts her head to look at Hope.
"Jo I will always be here for you, I love you the mostest." Hope smiles while pulling Josie up until the brunette is lying on top of her. They've been in the position many times before but now it feels different.
Josie looks deep into Hope's eyes and sees all the love she has for her and her breath catches. She feels herself being pulled toward the girl beneath her. If she just drops her head a few inches she could close the space between them. Is Hope getting closer or is she getting closer to Hope? Does Hope feel the same pull she does? She is a breath away from her best friend's lips when she closes her eyes. Suddenly the door bursts open and Josie leans back from Hope with wide eyes.
"Jo...." Lizzie says as she walks through the door. "Oh, hi Hope. Sorry to interrupt this homoerotic moment but Mom wanted me to come tell you we are home. Also maybe lock your door next time you want to reenact a Chappell Roan song" Lizzie says nonchalantly as she and exits the room.
Josie looks at Hope who's face looks as panicked as she feels. She clears her throat and rolls off of Hope and instantly misses the contact. "I'll be right back, Im going to go murder my sister." Josie says avoiding Hope's eyes, as she exits her room.
"Lizzie what the fuck?" Josie whisper shouts as she enters her sister's room.
"Oh please, It's not like I was completely serious. Why so defensive today? I always make comments about ya'll's gayness. You're practically attached at the hip." Lizzie says exasperated. Why is Jo being so weird?
"Never mind, I don't know why I'm so defensive lately." Josie tells her sister shaking her head.
"Is something bothering you Jo? You can talk to me you know, I can be serious when I need to be." Lizzie says sincerely.
"I know and thanks Liz. We can talk later if you're not busy?"
"I'm always here if you need me. We can talk tonight. But, right now I have to get ready to meet Ethan." Lizzie says walking into her closet.
"Sounds good. Have fun on your date or whatever it is."
"I think I'm going to give him a chance this time. I really like him, I just don't know how Maya will feel about me dating her brother." Lizzie says as she emerges from her closet with a skirt in hand.
"Maya will be fine, she's used to your constant flirting and heart eyes. She just wants you to be happy and so do I." Josie says as she hugs her sister.
Lizzie hugs her back. " Thanks Jo, and I want you to be happy too. I notice more than you think I do, and know you better than anyone. Thats why I don't know why you insist on being with that chia pet headed boy. He's not good enough for you. I don't even think you actually like him sometimes."
"It's not that I don't like him, I just don't feel the same way about him as you do about Ethan. That's why I'm breaking up with him today."
"Thank god! Now I don't have to pretend to like him." Lizzie says as she puts her hand on Josie's shoulder.
"If that was you pretending to like him, you might want to work on your approach." Josie says with a laugh.
"It's not my fault he's a complete imbecile. Seriously, who gets distracted by someone mentioning Ewoks while having a full blown make-out session?" Lizzie says shaking her head and laughing. She does have a point Josie thinks.
"Anyways," Josie is laughing now too. "we will talk when you get home. Im gonna get back to Hope now." Josie says while walking towards the door.
"Yes, don't keep her waiting. You wouldn't want her to think you're being too "casual" or anything like that." Lizzie smirks at her.
"Shut up Lizzie." Josie says laughing as she walks out the door.
