Ian stepped into the kitchen, his gaze landing on Andrew, who was absorbed in his phone across the room. With purposeful strides, Ian made his way over.
“Good morning,” Ian greeted, his voice cutting through the silence.
“Morning,” Andrew replied, barely looking up.
Ian positioned himself behind Andrew, the weight of the conversation pressing down on him. “We need to talk.”
Andrew pocketed his phone and turned to face Ian, curiosity flickering in his eyes. “What about?”
“Marshall Ross,” Ian said, watching Andrew’s reaction closely.
For a brief moment, surprise crossed Andrew’s face before it settled back into neutrality. “What about him?”
“Is there anything going on between you two? I need to know.”
Andrew’s surprise returned, eyes widening. “Nothings going on between him and I! I don’t even know him properly!”
“But then, why did you blush?” Ian pressed, his tone insistent.
“I didn’t! I was just–”
“Just what?” Ian challenged, his patience wearing thin.
Andew’s gaze fell away, his voice barely a whisper. “Embarrassed and scared..”
Ian’s surprise was evident as he absorbed Andrew’s words.
“I didn’t want you to believe that anything happened. I care about you, Ian. A LOT,” Andrew confessed, sincerity shining through.
A smile broke across Ian’s face, warmth flooding his chest. “How about you come and prove it to me then?” he suggested, playfully winking.
For a moment, Andrew looked taken aback, but then he straightened, determination settling in. “Okay, fine. Let’s do it.”
As Andrew walked away, out of the kitchen, Ian watched him go, a genuine happiness swelling within him.Nasser strolled along the pathway by the ocean, his attention absorbed by the screen of his phone. The rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore provided a soothing backdrop. Suddenly, he stopped, tucking his phone away as he spotted Janis, lost in thought and gazing out at the vast expanse of water. A smile crept onto Nasser’s face.
“JANIS!” he called out, his voice echoing lightly in the salty air.
Startled, Janis stumbled and fell to the ground. Nasser quickly crouched down beside her, concern etched on his face. “You okay there?”
Janis’s voice came out muffled from the sand.
“What was that, peasant?” Nasser teased, a playful grin on his lips.
Janis sat up, fury evident in her eyes. “I SAID YOU BETTER HAVE A DEATH WISH.”
Nasser’s eyes widened in surprise. Without a second thought, he sprang to his feet and dashed behind the nearest tree, his heart racing.
“That’s right–run away,” Janis called after him, a smirk forming as she turned back to the ocean.
“Wuss,” she muttered under her breath.
“I’m not a wuss! I just like hugging trees!” Nasser shouted from behind the trunk, his voice filled with mock indignation.
With a burst of energy, Nasser emerged from his hiding spot and began performing a ridiculous dance, flailing his arms and legs in a way that could only be described as absurd. Janis, unimpressed, kicked him playfully, sending him tumbling back to the ground.
“Stop trying to be weirder than me,” Janis remarked, shaking her head but unable to suppress a smile.Melody burst into her mom’s hospital room, her heart racing and tears streaming down her face, causing her eyeliner to drip like dark rain down her cheeks. Her hair was a chaotic mess, hastily pulled into a ponytail, but none of that mattered as she rushed to her mother’s side.
“MUM!” she cried, throwing her arms around Nancy, who was seated in a chair, a book resting forgotten in her lap.
Melody’s voice trembled as she clung to her mother, “I’m so sorry!”
Nancy looked up, confusion etched across her features. “Why are you saying sorry, dear?”
“I’m so sorry for everything,” Melody sobbed, her body shaking with emotion. “I’m sorry for reacting the way I did when you told me the truth!”
The words hung heavy in the air, and Melody could see the sadness flicker in her mother’s eyes. “You are my mum no matter what! AND I TRULY DO LOVE YOU!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with raw honesty.
“My dear little Melody,” Nancy whispered, her voice softening. “I love you, too. And I always will, no matter what. I’m so sorry for not telling you that I wasn’t your mother. We’ve both made mistakes.”
With that, Nancy stood up, enveloping Melody in a warm embrace. “But me raising you was never one of them,” she said gently.
Melody cried even harder, burying her face into Nancy's shoulder, feeling the warmth and love radiating from the woman who had been her rock through it all. In that moment, the weight of their shared pain began to lift, replaced by the unbreakable bong they had forged together.
