Chapter 2: The Shift

Friday night when I tried to go to sleep, I kept waking up due to a weird dream about a grey and white colored wolf walking beside an all white wolf and a sandy colored male wolf. The sandy colored male wolf’s fur reminded me of my dad’s hair. The wolves were walking through the meadow where I met Sam earlier today. It was very weird because the wolves met up with a black wolf and a chocolate colored wolf who reminded me of Sam and Naomi. Right about when everyone started to shift is when I woke up. The only ones that I saw shift were Sam and Naomi. I wanted to ask Mom what the dream meant but I was also nervous because I didn't want the tribe to outcast me as well and I didn't know how it would affect my friends if I was like Sam and Naomi. I tried to lay back down to try and get some sleep because by this time it was roughly two am. I knew that my alarm would be going off at eight am and I had a busy day tomorrow.

I was finally able to go back to sleep and slept peacefully until my alarm went off. Once I woke up I got dressed; I picked out a pair of faded jeans, a dark green tank top, and my combat boots. After I got dressed I walked downstairs to eat breakfast before starting my chore list. Today on my chore list was the following: clean the breakfast dishes, clean the kitchen (sweep and mop the kitchen), wipe down the cabinets, vacuum the rugs, and clean the bathroom. This chore list normally takes me all day but I was try to hurry up with them today. I wanted to meet up with Sam after the council meeting, to see what they had to say. I started with the kitchen and started to chip away at my list. I put my headphones in and put on my cleaning playlist. The first song on my playlist was an upbeat, fast paced techno song by Skrillex. I finished the kitchen in roughly an hour and half. Then I started vacuuming the rugs throughout the entire house. Next, I started cleaning the bathroom which includes cleaning the tub, sink, and toilet. Then I went to clean the mirror and wipe down the cabinets. Once I finished all of that I swept the bathroom floor, then I moped the floor. When I finished my entire list it was roughly 12:30pm.

Once I noticed what time it was and realized that it was roughly time for Sam's meeting with the council to discuss a few things. I don't know how long the meeting would take so I don't want to bother him until he is done. I know that the meeting would probably take a while because I was hoping that they would welcome Sam and his family back into the tribe. If they didn't then I would try my best to make sure that they are safe and that the hunters don't find them/hunt them.

Sam:

Shortly after Rose left, I met back up with Naomi and our children to make sure they were safe. Rose kinda made sure that the hunters left, and it seemed like she recognized one of them. The young male that she seemed to recognize, she looked very annoyed with him. The hunters left shortly after she did but they were upset that they couldn't find us. I found Naomi and the pups curled up inside the den that we made; she took them here to be safe. I papped into the den in my wolf form and gently nuzzled Naomi; then gently picked her muzzle. I turned back into my my human form and so did my mate. I looked at her and said, “they haven't told her what she is and what she is starting the shifting process. I'm hoping that the elders have noticed the signs and start explaining.” Naomi nodded, “yea I saw her hand shift and I don't know if she saw it or not. She also seemed really calm with seeing us.” The pups started to nuzzle into each other and they started to doze off. Just about then I heard my phone start to buzz, I reached over and grabbed it, it was Rose. We had a same conversation and I looked at Naomi, “she might have just got us a chance to go back home!”

Naomi looked at me confused and asked, “what do you mean?” I responded by saying, “the elders are supposed to call me to set up a meeting because Rose basically said that they were wrongfor kicking us out.” Naomi looked at me,” okay but we should probably start looking for dinner the littles will be getting hungry.” I looked at the pups and gently whispered, “you kids stay here mom and I are going hunting. We will be right back.” Both pups nodded and then nuzzled into each other and went to sleep. Naomi and I went out hunting for a deer and couple rabbits. We were able to get a buck mule deer and once rabbit. I let Naomi carry the rabbit while I took chunks of the mule deer back to the den. I made a couple trips to get the whole deer back to the de. The kids stayed in their wolf forms and began to dig in. After dinner I went on a terrority sweep to make sure everything was safe before winding down for bed. Once I came back to the den, my phone started to buzz when I picked it up, it was one of the elders from my old tribe.

The elder of my old tribe that called me we call her Aiyana, which translates to forever flowering. When I picked up the phone I recognized Aiyana’s voice and said said, “hello is this either Samaule or Naomi?  If so the elders would like to meet up with one of you tomorrow around noon to speak with you.” I responded, “ this is Sam and sure where do you wanna meet up at?” “The normal tribal council meeting spot.” Then she hung up the phone. I turned to Naomi, ”i guess Rose talked to her grandpa because I got a meeting with the elders tomorrow at noon, maybe we could get back into the tribe.” “Yay, that would be amazing and I wonder what she said to them for them to chance their minds.” I shook my head as a no, “I don't know but I'm glad that something was said to change their mind.”

I looked at Naomi and gently whispered, " we should probably get ready for bed soon, because I wanna make sure everyone is safe and fed before I leave to meet up with the council." "I know and I can watch over the pups while you are gone and we can hunt before hand. We will be fine for a couple of hours. If it makes you better we won't even leave the den." Naomi said this while gently rubbing my upper arm. I nodded at her and we both shifted and curled into the den and gave the pups a bath to get the blood off them. I waited for Naomi and the pups to fall asleep before going to check the immediate area to make sure that there were no scents other than ours. Once I made sure that everything was safe I tried to go to sleep and waited until morning. When I woke up it was barely light outside and I looked at my phone and my phone said that it was about six am.

I began my normal morning routine of doing a full territory sweep, marking our territory, and catching enough rabbits for breakfast. I normally use rabbits for breakfast because they are easy to hunt and bring back to the den. When Naomi and the pups woke up each of them were two rabbits. I ate one rabbit while I was out hunting but my nerves were affecting the amount I could/want to eat. When I noticed that Naomi had woken up, and gently looked concerned but I didn't understand why. I gently sniffed the air. I picked up a familiar scent of someone from the tribe.  The scent was a female who smelled similar to Rose. I stepped out of the den and found a totes right outside of the den. If I had to guess, the scent belonged to Nikici, Rose’s mother.

The tote contained some homemade jelly, pita bread, jerky, some homemade canned veggies, and a note. The note read, I'm sorry that I agreed with the council about making you and your family leave the tribe. Rose made all of us see reason, and see that our forefathers would try the same thing with the whole tribe if they were still living. We had to evolve with the times. I now see that it is about time that we start telling our kids sooner if we know there is a half of a chance that they could shift. I wanted to offer a peace offering to say I'm deeply sorry and I want to invite you and your family over for dinner this evening; if you guys are up for it. I gently grabbed the tote after shifting to my human form and brought the tote into the den. Once I made it inside I handed Naomi the letter to let her read it. Once she read it she nodded, “yea I would love to go have dinner with Nikici and Rose.” “Yea I would too, so we could get to know them,” I responded.

Around this time its 8:30 am and the pups started to move around and wake up, Nova was the first one to fully wake up. Nikola woke up shortly after his sister. They both gently approached the tote and changed into their human forms. They both looked at me confused so I responded, “it's okay, you remember Rose from yesterday? Hermom left this for us to say that she was sorry for how the tribe acted towards us.” Nova looked at me and asked, “the girl from the clearing yesterday is family?” “Yes she is my first cousin on my mom’s side. My mother and her father are siblings.” I gently took both Nova and Nikolai in a hug. I gently released the pups from the hug and walked back towards the tote and grabbed some of the pita bread, jelly, and the jerky. I then took the jelly and the ita bread and smeared the jelly on the bread and handed one to Naomi, Nova, and Nikola; they made one or myself a sandwich. Then I sat the container of jerky in the middle of all of us. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast, and after we all got done eating I told everyone bye. Then I started my sweep of the nearby woods before heading out to meet up with the council.

I ran to the meeting spot in my wolf form, once I got into pack territory I shifted back into my human form. Once I made it to the meeting hall, there were three council members one was Aiyana, one was an older council member that I didn't remember, and the third one was Rose’s mom Nikici. They all gently hugged me and thanked me for coming out to speak with them. They gestured for me to come into the meeting hall. Once we got into the meeting hall we all sat down at a circle table. Aiyana looked around the table then said, “It has been brought to our attention that we made a mistake and we wanna fix it.
