It was fucking cold, that's what it was. Sitting in this waiting room, Kiran though would surely kill her. Being logical was hard in this situation when fear was so close at hand. She knew why she was cold, but she couldn't do anything about it. If she had been clad as a woman, had long hair as a woman should and if her breasts weren't bound to give her a more masculine appearance, well then someone would probably happily give her a fucking blanket but since Kiran was, now seen as a boy there was nothing to do to help make her warm. No man would offer her their jackets, no doctors would fall over their feet to quirk up the thermostat. No right now, she was on her own. The adrenalin was pumping through her veins. She was waiting for one of the doctors or nurses to call her in to an office to check if she was 4F or up for military service. To make sure she was actually a he. Well, if the doctor asked her to take of her shirt Kiram thought funnily, he probably wouldn't be disappointed either way
"Kieran Mal! Kiernan Mal to office three! It took a couple of seconds for Kiran to realise that Kieran Mal in fact was her. It was the fake name she had written up on the forms she was given, it was of course not the only lie on the form, her birth date was also in fact a bit of. However, Kiran figured that a lot of the real boys lied about things on their forms and didn't get in trouble for that so why would she. I mean a woman in disguise well it probably wasn't worse than a sixteen-year-old in service right.... "Yeah, this will go really good" She muttered for herself, a desperate attempt to lower her pulse as well as her blood pressure.
Walking into the secluded space Kiran caught sight of the nurse at the table. Kiran had taken a bus to three towns away to make sure she didn't know anyone in the waiting room as well as the staff. It seemed luck was not in her favour. Looking up the nurse quickly caught sight of her standing there awkwardly, obliviously trying to figure out if she should make a run for it.
"Hello soldier, won't you sit down"
"Uhh you sure, i could go to another station or brew you some coffee or like-"
"Site down solider"
"Yes ma'am
Now then, what in the actual name of God are you doing here Kiran Matek.
"Well, so it all started when i decided to come visit you, so how about that coffee!"
"You cut of all your beautiful hair for coffee! Don't give me that bullshit!" Amy whisper shouted at the young woman Infront of her.
".....Maybe"
"You're going to tell me why you're here and you're going to tell me now!"
"It's quite complicated and actually kind of private, you know family matters and all that, but to simplify it, i need to get into the airborne.
"What! but why, why can't you just be a nurse or like, well I don't know but why a Gaddam soldier, I mean this is like the dumbest shit I've ever seen in my life what makes you think you won't be caught. Goodness's sake woman, okay look. You're going to have to give me a reason, a good reason for me to sign those papers, I mean I understand if it's something in the lines of woman deserving a chance and all that but your still so young, for starters your like 17 and your also African American I mean no African American has served without segregation in the united states army.
"Well Amy my dear friend, I....., she paused, my mom received a letter the other day from my sister, Shes pregnant......and it wasn't by choice. She's been kicked out of the nurse corps and since the guy who.... raped her was a captain, a British captain for that matter the army won't do fuck all about it. Now my family already has a tight economy you know that, then well they can't just send her money, and she can't get home not when the fucking krauts are bombing ships in the Atlantic. So Shes stuck without help and without income. I need the money the airborne offers so i can help her and ..well and the baby. And when it comes to being African well Im passable as Syrian or Iranian and well they can serve non segregated now. I wrote down Asian American on the forms instead of Moroccan. I figured that would work fine"
