The difference is his mother and father. His mother is a very gorgeous and smart lady. She's very thoughtful to and is a model. His father, though, is a very well known soccer player. His role is playing as the striker on the field.
His father had grew up to be very famous and meet his mother in a modeling competition. They grew inseparable and fell in love. That's how mateo castillo fell in love with soccer. He grew up always wanting to play and be just like his father.
He may have inherited his father's legacy with soccer, but his looks come from his mother.

The only person that know's mateo's true identity is his best friend, Angel Garcia. His best friend is from the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.

The rain fell steadily as mateo stared out the window, his boredom only increasing. Usually, he would be outside when he visits his mom's home place, the Dominican Republic. He would be out there playing soccer with the stuff he brought from Japan. But today, he couldn't since it was raining and his mom doesn't want him getting sick.
Does mateo listen? No, no he doesn't. Grabbing his jacket with his small hands, he quietly slipped out of the house, the cool rain a non unwelcoming relief.
He wandered aimlessly for a while, letting the rain soak through his hair and clothes. Eventually, he found himself at a nearby field. The familiar sight offered a brief respite from his bored thoughts. He made his way to the field, when he spots a kid his age.. playing with a soccer ball?
He's surprised, sure.. but, maybe he could make a friend here? He slowly walks up to the other male as he tapped his shoulder gently.
"Ah, uhm.. disculpa?.." The 6 year old boy spoke out softly in Spanish. " Juegas al fútbol?" He asked the other boy in a curious manner with a head tilt.
The other boy looked at him surprised and nodded eagerly. "Sí! Sí! Tú? Si es así, sé mi amigo!" He looked at mateo was twinkling and excited eyes.
Mateo.. knew he could make a friend. So, he took it to his advantage and accepted. "En realidad? vale.. mi nombre mateo.. y el tuyo?" Mateo's new friend looked at him excitedly and spoke,
"Mi nombre es ángel! Ahora eres mi nuevo amigo!" He was grinning ear to ear. Mateo knew his new friend, Angel was far more energetic and enthusiastic than he was. Mateo was more on the calm and quiet side.. but then again, he wouldn't mind someone like Angel.
Maybe.. just maybe, he can help him out of his comfort zone. Maybe mateo can show and tell him the truth of how famous his parents are? But then again, who knows what the future has in store.

Mateo remembered vividly how his new friend reacted to when he let him meet his parents and his older siblings. His best friend was so excited! Mateo would always think about it and laugh.
He was glad his new friend wouldn't just use him for the fame or money he got. Mateo may have been a 6 year old boy, but he wasn't naive. He was a very smart kid. Everyone could tell his intelligence from a mile.
I mean, look at his parents? Went to top school's in Japan to pursue their own careers in what they love. Mateo would be doing the same. Following their legacy and making a name for himself in the future.
With the support of his best friend, Angel, the support of his mom and dad, and his older siblings, he felt like anything AND everything was possible. He would be forever grateful for them.

Mateo was very upset and sad when he had to leave his mom's hometown. He had to leave his new best friend, Angel, alone. He had made sure he gave his parents angel's parents numbers so they can stay in contact and not lose it.
Mateo shared stories and memories from Japan. He shared things on how he was always scared to go to a school there since he didn't speak Japanese well. He was scared of people judging him for being a Hispanic boy and speaking a different language.
Though, his best friend reassured him. That's why he is so grateful for him. Even though mateo left later that day, Angel never left his head and thought about all the new memories he can bring up when they're older.

BACK TO PRESENT DAY!!
Mateo was absolutely scared to the bone. He had just celebrated his 16th birthday. But, this would be Mateo's first year going into a public high school instead of being homeschooled. His mother and father encouraged him to go due to his high test scores and how smart he was.
Mateo liked the praise.. hell, throughout the 10 years he was homeschooled, he leaned Japanese and speaks it fluently because he's going to a school in Japan. It's a bit embarrassing to him to go to a school in a place and not know its language.
He doesn't wanna be embarrassed or made fun of for it. But still.. what if people don't like him?! He was so scared of being rejected at a place where he genuinely wants to go since he wants to pursue his soccer career.
The one his dad had suggested was a high school called "Matsukaze Kokuo High School." The school itself was huge and known for having good grades, test scores, all that type of stuff. Its soccer team was well known to.
So, mateo wasn't that nervous. When it came to the morning of that day, he was shaking like a leaf. He started to overthink and fidget with his bracelets on his wrist. "What if I don't say something right?" "What if they realize I'm Dominican?" "Would they even still like me?"
All these thoughts came dawning on him for a while. His mom called him down as he slowly made his way over. His mom, being the sweet soul she is, fixed up his school's uniform and filed his face.
"Vamos, mateo.. relájate. Todo estará bien." She spoke in Spanish and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. Mateo could feel himself ease as he looked at her and nodded.
"Está bien mamá. Te amo y te veré más tarde." He gave her one last nod. He managed to leave without making her worry. He doesn't want her to worry. Mateo promised his mom mentally that he would make it through this day and not come home upset.
He hoped.. and hoped for the best when his driver took him to school. He waved goodbye and stood in front of the large school.
"Bien... Escuela secundaria Matsukaze Kokuo, veamos qué tienes para ofrecer."
